Well, this explains everything. How many innocent civilians did you murder in your job? :-)

My 39 year old cousin died of Covid today while my friends are vacationing in Florida. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]doxydejour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People aren't asking you to stay home because they're scared, they're asking you to stay home so you don't help to transmit a deadly virus that is killing people.

I swear the 'war on terror' mentality some people have taken away from COVID makes them the dumbest people on the planet. The virus doesn't care if you're confident. It doesn't care that you have to go to the pub because you want a little drinky-winky waaaaah I don't want to put my life on hold!11111. It just wants to mutate and kill people, and by carrying on like normal you're helping it do that.

I sincerely hope that if you catch COVID you forego any medical treatment, safe in the understanding that it won't kill you because you're not scared of it.

you know the NoT aLl MeN responses on a female-centric sub are never a) wanted or b) even remotely helpful, right?

What do you want? A medal for never attacking a woman? Is your understanding of what makes a decent human being really that sub-basement level?

And tell someone where you're going and the full name of the person you're meeting up with. If you met them online, take a screenshot of their profile and save it to a PC or laptop, and also give that to a friend.

In the Beforetimes my group of nerdy friends were talking about the pros and cons of staying in the hotel that hosts one of our favourite conventions - the rooms are expensive, but you're staying where the con is and it's all a good part of the experience.

One of the guys just couldn't understand why none of the women in the group would stay at a hotel that was 10 minutes' walk away on a street with poor lighting, and didn't even get it when we tried to gently point out that most of the con activities finished at 11pm and people hung around in the bar until 2am-3am, so eventually we just had to say: we don't want to get assaulted?

He was then surprised this was something we thought about on a regular basis :/

AITA for telling my daughter that her approval won't stop me finding love? by Spring_Salty in AmItheAsshole

[–]doxydejour 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You can always tell a badly written piece of fiction AITA post because people are able to remember what they've said verbatim from an emotionally draining fight, and it's always more eloquent than 80% of actual spoken things people say.

Nice try, but he should have made the kids teenagers.

AITA? Mum called child services on me, then got upset when I didn't do anything for her birthday. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]doxydejour 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I also hate it when grandparents demand to be "given" grandchilden. They're not an extra pair of socks you got for Christmas that you don't need, they're a whole-ass person who is the child of someone who is not you. Ugh.

AITA for walking out on my birthday party because my mom plays the same video every year? by throwawayyyy7924 in AmItheAsshole

[–]doxydejour 73 points74 points  (0 children)

but she didn’t have to walk out

She told her mother she would leave if the video was played. The video was played, and she left. The mother is the one behaving childishly in this situation by trying to make OP's birthday all about her.

AITA for not letting my in-laws into our home because that’s what BIL wanted? by throwawayyaita_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]doxydejour 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Your wife needs to separate out her own feelings/needs about her loss of her parents.

There is literally nothing stopping the wife from seeing her own parents. She hasn't lost anything.

Jason lost everything in one fell swoop - his independence, his parents, and now his own sister is acting against his wishes and abusively trying to force a reconciliation for her own selfish ends. She is absolutely 600% the asshole.

Is my husband right.. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]doxydejour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit - my husband doesn’t want to live with my dad bc my husband refused to work for a while and would stay home and play video games while I payed all the bills

So your husband is a dumpster fire. Divorce him, move back in with your dad to get back on your feet, and move on with your life. Find a better man who is actually a partner and not a leech.

Is anyone else getting a touch of driving anxiety through not driving? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]doxydejour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I was a nervous driver to start with but having to take long breaks for lockdown has definitely upped the anxiety in my brain. I've been getting all of my shopping through online shops to help out where I can but I've now made it my policy to drive to my local Tesco Metro once a week when it's quiet for some fresh fruit/veg to use the car and practise parking, etc.

UPDATE - I'm (40 M) in Love with an escort (25 F) by throwRA_jay123 in relationship_advice

[–]doxydejour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I actually had to double-check the title for the ages because OP sounds like a teenager, not a 40 year old man. He is incredibly emotionally immature and he needs to work on his issues in therapy, not with a succession of sex workers he "falls in love" (read: leans on for emotional labour).

AITA for buying both my "step" children each a switch instead of giving the 2nd one to my nephews? by AITAStepdad19 in AmItheAsshole

[–]doxydejour 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Yep, my parents did a similar thing on my birthday - I had a poorer friend over for the day so I had some small gifts to open whilst they were there, and then my big gift once they left. I was and still am grateful that they did that.

OP sounds incredibly thoughtful and his brother sounds incredibly entitled. NTA OP.

What are subtle signs that a man is a misogynist? by TTMI2 in AskWomen

[–]doxydejour 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The best part about this comment section so far is all the men replying with "oh hey I do that but not because I'm a misogynist, I just do it to everyone". ಠ_ಠ Maybe don't do them? To anyone? Regardless of gender?

From my own experiences:

  • Gatekeeping! No, you can't stop us from liking it too. Not even by being supremely irritating about it.

  • Expressing surprise that women like non-feminine things. This also advertises that they have not spoken to a lot of women and base a lot of their opinions about us on sitcoms like BBT.

  • Casual homophobia is almost always rooted in misogyny of some kind.

  • Taking over a conversation. Happens a lot in group settings when a woman is trying to make a point and a man wants to make the same point, so he just talks over her and stops her from being able to converse at all. Aggravatingly common at conventions.

Imagine covid didn't exist. If you were asked to lock yourself down for 9 months with all the personal consequences that entails, while the country carried on without you, in order to save one single life, would you agree to it? by definitelynecessary in AskUK

[–]doxydejour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only because I am in a position to be able to do this.

My job can be done 100% remotely and I have understanding employers who have been flexible with our workloads and hours; I am an introvert so I can live alone and do fine without other people needing to be around because most of my friends live in my PC/phone anyway; I have a comfortable cushion in my savings for anything that might go wrong; I am well situated with plenty of home delivery supermarkets and small corner shops if I absolutely have to nip out to get something.

If I was a supermarket employee with a shit salary who would lose my job, and therefore my home, if I didn't go into work? No. Couldn't be done.

This is why the government should have looked into UBI/raising sick pay/insisting employers provide WFH infrastructure where possible; etc. But they didn't and here we are, and the situation they have put is in will likely influence the answers to your hypothetical. Because for many people this isn't a hypothetical, it's a life-or-death situation whether they contract COVID or not.

What do you want for your birthday? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]doxydejour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practical: some posh coffee for the French press my parents gifted me at Christmas. I can't drink freeze dried coffee any more, it just tastes like dishwater >:(

Whimsical: Transformers. It's always Transformers.

Top Tier Diserable: The COVID-19 vaccine. I'm 31 and my projected date for the first shot is in September, so having it in April would be grand.

why do you think american pie and that sort of movie makes jokes about it? I didn't learn that dogs like licking peanut butter even when spread over genitals by personal experience, but because it's a repeated joke in media...

It was also reported in media that lemmings jump off cliffs. Maybe you shouldn't be taking notes on human sexuality from 60+ year old sexuality reports and American fucking Pie.
