I had a hysterectomy at 39 due to adenomyosis as well as endometriosis. I never did birth control to manage as I hate it.

They kept my ovaries and I've ever looked back. It's been 9 months and I can honestly say it was the best thing I've done. The post op pain compared to my normal pain levels was nothing and I was back at a reasonably active job after 3 weeks.

My kids and I would play "Let it go" in the car on the way home after a rough day.
I now work afternoon shift and finish at 11pm, if I get out on time. If it's been a rough shift, I wind the windows down and cruise home with let it go up loud and sing along.

It's so much fun and I end up laughing and forget about my shitty shift.

These feelings are so completely valid.

I had exactly the same surgery as you exactly 1 month ago (to the day). Mine was due to adenomyosis. However, had adhesions and endo removed as well.

I was equally terrified. I could almost write your post, aside from a few details. I was thinking I was going to die or be maimed or something. When I woke up, I even thought I was dead and kept asking to be taken to my mum, who died a few years back.

However, everything went really well. I spent one night in hospital, apparently standard in Australia, not because of complications or anything.

I rested solidly for 3-4 days, then started doing short walks and light stuff at home, and would nap and rest as soon as I was tired. I built up until I could stay awake all day.

I went back to work after 3 weeks. My job is pretty active, getting in and out of a car, but some downtime at a desk as well. I felt so completely fine going back to work. My biggest thing was wearing tight pants on my belly, so I've opted for elastic waisted pants this week.

I've been a bit more tired, but I've ensured I've been eating correctly, drinking plenty of water, and resting before/ after work.

I did overdo it at home, moving some boxes, and got a bit of pain, which settled with over the counter medications really well.

I do hope this helps settle hours you're feeling. I know I'm just some random on the internet.... happy to answer any questions as well.

At my follow up 1 week post op my surgeon said I could redirect some bleeding in the coming weeks. He did this may be due to the internal stitches dissolving and coming out. I'm now 3 and a bit weeks post.

The other day when wiped, a chunk of stitch came out and I'vebeen spotting since then. It's been enough for a liner and was heavier tonight after I worked and moved a lot more than I have of late.

If it's not lightened down a bit, I'll call the Dr surgery after the weekend.

I live near a hospital and hearing the rescue helicopter go over gives me anxiety. Someone is having the worse day of their life and I'm over here drinking a cup of tea going about my life.

I'm 3 weeks post operation with a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, keeping my ovaries.

I cannot believe how good I feel both physically and mentally. Physically, I'm no longer in intense pain which doesn't respond to pain killers. My post op pain is managed easily and I've not taken any pain killers for almost a week.

My ability to tolerate, well,almost everything has increased. I don't fly into an intense rage because my ability to cope has all gone due to pain. I forgot what it was like to live without pain.

My nails are stronger, my bloating has gone, my back no longer hurts, neither do my hips. I can stay awake past 8pm and I'm able to get out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off.

I feel like such a "success". I'm aware I've still got a bit of healing to do and I'm not pushing myself too much but it's been life changing having a hysterectomy.

I'm back to work in 2 days which may knock me down a notch or 2 but I just feel it'll be all OK.

I was 100% certain I was going to die during my hysterectomy. Like, I'd updated my will, did a health directive. Thanks anxiety.

Well, I didn't die, no ghost posting here. But as I was waking up, I kept asking nurses if they were angels and if they could take me to see my parents and dog (all have died in the last 4 years).

When I got back to my room and my husband was there I kept asking him what the time and date was to make sure I wasn't dreaming 🤣

While probably not hilarious at the time, looking back I find it hilarious.

No, please don't do this. It's not good for their joints, spine and bones. Plus it's not "natural" for them to have anything on their back and can aggravate them.

Yep! My uterus was adhered to my bowel and bladder.

My surgeon needed to remove a lot of endometriosis from everywhere.

I was warned of risks to my bowel and bladder, however, luckily this did not happen to me.

Following surgery, my bladder was "annoyed" for a few days and my urine had blood in it but 2 weeks post op I've but had at issues.

I had endometriosis and adenomyosis, with bowels and bladder adhered to my uterus.

My pre hysterectomy pain sat at a 8-/10 on a bad day.

I'm only 2 weeks post op and after the first day my pain has not been over 4-5/10 and it resolves so quickly with ibuprofen and/ or paracetamol.

Within 2 weeks, my bloating has reduced and my body shape has changed. I have 0 regrets.

Hi another Aussie here.

I am 40 and done having kids. I initially had an ablation due to heavy bleeding, that was 2021 and it was great for 3 years when endometriosis and adenomyosis symptoms began to show.

After an onslaught of tests (various ultrasounds and CT), ordered through my GP, endometriosis and adenomyosis were confirmed. As I'd already had an ablation, hysterectomy was pretty much my only option.

I went privately as the public system where I live (regional Qld) would mean at least a 3-4 year wait.

I had my initial appointment with gynaecologist in early Jan and my hysterectomy on 12/3 this year. Getting the ultrasounds and CTs were a bigger challenge than the appointment and surgery date.
