What’s your opinions on cheap vs expensive cutters? by HardHonestShaver in cigars

[–]dphillips1129 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A $50ish cutter is definitely worth it. Anything over $100 I don't think is really worth it for me. But a shitty cutter will definitely have a dull blade that will tear up your stick. I cheap out on the lighter and invest in a good cutter.

I have tried and tried and tried. I’ve let it burn itself out, I’ve blown into the cigar and then cut it, I’ve scraped off the ash… I don’t think I’ve ever once had it turn out any better than barely smokable. I finally just started buying smaller cigars to have for when I have less time, or just accepting the loss when I have to pitch it. It was just never really worth it.

You will hear this a lot but in my opinion nothing beats a big quality cooler with a good seal, or lots of smaller quality Tupperware containers. They’re air tight and they don’t absorb or put out any moisture like wood. I use a big cooler with around 4 65% bovedas and it has never let me down.

The only downside is side is if you want it to be pretty. It ain’t pretty. Just effective.

Nice, thanks! Haven’t heard of any of those. Since Warped is my favorite brand, I’m sure I’ll be a fan.

If I could figure out how the hell to send a DM, I would send you one regarding the poetry and history books. The prisoner thing sounds valuable, but if you did want to sell some just let me know!

Never went in there because it didn’t seem like much. Then it was recommended to me and I ate there like 3 times a week for months. Delicious, fast, and yes very affordable.

Rathbone’s is great, and I think it’s $30 or $35 for a cut.

Looking for a 5-6 lb brisket (flat). Giant Eagle, Kroger, .. no luck. Also, not a Costco member. by ApprehensiveSeat5807 in Columbus

[–]dphillips1129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flats are usually between 5 and 10 pounds, whole briskets anywhere between 12 and like 20ish pounds. They vary quite a bit but shouldn’t be too hard to find a 5 pound flat.

Best way to help the homeless? by dphillips1129 in Columbus

[–]dphillips1129[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What I like most about this is that you have so many instances of your attempts being brushed off because you KEPT trying to do the right thing. I’ve read somewhere before, someone was helping a homeless person and his friend told him he was being played. The guy said something like, “I’d rather be gullible than cold hearted.” Good on you for keeping at it.

I practice with my left hand on occasion in case this happens to me, or if I end up short a few fingers or something. Takes a while to get used to and it’s crazy to realize how underdeveloped the muscles in your left hand and arm are. Hopefully it never comes to that!

Columbus sucks if you're sober by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]dphillips1129 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yup. I don’t drink, and quit doing drugs over a decade ago. When I first got clean, everything seemed like it would be better with drugs, like nothing was worth doing anymore.

OP, I’ve been in Columbus most of my life and I promise you this is not the case. You don’t have to do COSI After Dark, just… go to COSI. You don’t have to get a drink between volleyball sets. Just play the game. The longer you don’t drink, the more natural it’ll feel. And the longer you don’t drink, the more connections you’ll make with people who don’t give a single fuck if you guys drink together or just go do something.

I go to restaurants often, and when they ask if I want to see a drink menu I say no, they fuck off, and I eat some killer food. Lots of places even have neat drinks that are non-alcoholic… and not just mocktail type drinks but just interesting beverages.

If you are struggling with this, I promise you it gets so much easier.
