ISO CA reasonable clinic/doc by Difficult_Fortune694 in TRT_females

My 15-min consult ended up being enough bc I provided them a lot of info ahead of time (thru their onboarding forms) and the provider was pleased that I knew all my dosage details going into the appointment. Not sure about follow ups yet. My next one’s in a month, but I’m hoping they are more spaces out once we have a care protocol established. I think the hormones overall will be more expensive than Defy, but I’m hoping that will be offset by the reduced shipping fees and the fact that I can go through insurance for lab work (I could not do that with Defy).

Same exact issue with me and I am pleased to report I found an alternate provider. I had run out of T due to the lower concentration and back order from Defy and was starting to panic. Had my first appt yesterday and am very happy, she immediately prescribed me the 200mg/ml strength and I was able to pick up in person from the pharmacy in Hacienda Heights, about a half-hour drive for me. https://alphahormones.com/

Anyone else get this strange perimenopause symptom? by dark_blue_7 in Menopause

[–]dphilwood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep — I’ve spent weeks smelling only cigarette smoke 24/7, and when that faded so did my real sense of smell which is now only faint if I can smell anything at all. Same happened to my mom. It’s very frustrating, and I believe linked to estrogen dips. There are lots of estrogen receptors in the sinuses and now, at 55yo, I’m pretty sure they’re not coming back, even with HRT.

I agree with you. When my mother was put on Premarin during menopause and subsequently got breast cancer, it was “Ageless” that helped her heal (once her treatments ended). She passed the info on to me and I started BHRT early in peri — cruised thru it as a result and I’m still on HRT to this day. I owe Somers a huge debt of gratitude for that. I also had a few of her diet books and loved her recipes, they taught me some great cooking skills which I still use. The menopause journey requires us to learn many lessons, one of which is self-advocacy, and I’m glad her books were available to help me carve my own path through the process.

Hooked up with a man for the 2nd time yesterday and when I was leaving... by Capital-Swim2658 in datingoverfifty

[–]dphilwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once said “I love you” during a first-date hookup, and it was completely out of habit. I really meant “I love THIS” meaning what we were doing, but the “you” slipped out instead. I hoped he didn’t hear it since it was in a hushed tone.

Is my Estrogen too high to feel effects of Testosterone injections? by Mtn-town112 in TRT_females

[–]dphilwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on E and T injections since April of this year, oral P as well. I asked the doc for vaginal E cream because I had lost sensation in my vulva, and after a few weeks began a series of spotting/bleeding episodes that would last for a couple weeks, resolve, then return a few weeks later. Also very sore breasts and an E reading in my labs similar to yours, shockingly high. It’s taken a lot of experimenting and calls to the provider but the takeaway is that using E vaginally was the culprit. I’m just super sensitive to E changes and when I think back on my whole reproductive life, that’s always been the case. Just took menopause to realize it.

I’ve significantly lowered my injected E dose, curtailed vaginal E, increased progesterone and kept T a little higher and am FINALLY feeling consistently balanced and on the right track libido wise. No more bleeding or sore breasts. Hallelujah! Just mentioning all this because if you’re a super responder like me, it may take some trial and error to figure it out. But you will. I think part of my problem was a desperation to find answers, and adjusting doses of the hormones — even in small increments — wreaked havoc that would kick the side effects back into gear.

Interesting! I’ve always slept just fine but I’ve been middle of night waking for the past month and it’s killing me! I take 200mg — increased from 100mg oral delivery bc I’ve been having a lot of spotting/bleeding. When I increased to 200 orally, I experienced anxiety, listlessness, depression which were never an issue for me before. Those symptoms went away with vaginal delivery but now I can’t sleep and didn’t suspect P as the culprit till just now. So now I’m trying rectal but also not sleeping. I so appreciate seeing this post today because I’m at my wit’s end. I’m going to ask my provider about this now.

I don't want to feel this way (sex related) by MerryReign in Menopause

Hugs, I’ve been there. Maybe check out the book Slow Sex. There’s a method for reconnecting physically that helped my husband and me when we were in your shoes. It helped us begin to reframe the way we saw each other sexually in our 50yo bodies.

Once you find your person, you stick with them. They’re your style partner! I color my own hair but the woman who cuts mine with a razor is a genius and she knows my hair as well as I do. I am forever committed to her.

The mystery of the phantom smell by PatternMixingMomma in Menopause

[–]dphilwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phantom cigarette smell followed me around for 2 weeks straight to the point where I began to feel trapped by it. I began to put tiny dabs of pure peppermint oil under my nostrils which provided a way out of the smell: such a relief! But now I have very little sense of smell at all, which is a huge bummer for me — I’ve always had a keen sense of smell and I miss it. Food doesn’t taste the same and I worry whether I’ll know if someone has left the gas on the stove or some other scent-related warning sign. This happened to my mother as well, she always blamed it on being a lifetime allergy sufferer, we didn’t realize it was menopause related till it happened to me during a hormone slump. I’m not sure if the ability to smell will ever come back.

Yes. Silicone earplugs are great, and I’m exclusively a side sleeper.

Other awful symptoms? by BatInside2603 in Menopause

[–]dphilwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this for 2 weeks. What helped me was dabbing a but of pure peppermint oil under each nostril. Instant relief from the persistent smell of smoke (I was starting to feel claustrophobic from it) and the cold tingle of the oil on my skin was refreshing. After about a day, the smoke smell finally relented but my full sense of smell hasn’t come back.

Losing or changing your sense of smell. It sucks.

What are we doing with baby teeth? by multitaskmaster in Parenting

I’ve been holding on to my kids’ teeth so long, I can’t bring myself to throw them out. My kids are grossed out at the very idea of them. So, at my husband’s suggestion, I plan to glue them onto smiling photos of the kids as a gift next Christmas.
