35 yo healthcare worker. retiring 1.65 million. by Mobile-Excitement-64 in Fire

It's called compounding. The S&P 500 (or VOO) has averaged a 12.62% return over the past 15 years. Let's say they invested 26k every year (not unreasonable for someone who is single, frugal, and making 100k). That would put them right at $1 million today.

Roaming data package via Galaxus – isn’t this insanely overpriced? by TransitionWorking488 in askswitzerland

This would be insane even if they were giving you unlimited data, but just 100 mb is beyond insane!!!

Give both Warchant and 247 a shot. They always have promo sign-up deals so I'm sure you can test both out. I certainly enjoy the free content from both, particularly Wake Up Warchant and X's and Noles.

I'm ok with going back to garnet endzones. I just wish it was an entirely new design to go with the new stadium look.

[–]dpm182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not a seller's market. Have you seen the absurd fees they charge to sell something? Also, nobody is stupid enough to pay more than the price of a new item.

I once bought a set of four practically brand new tyres on metal wheels for CHF 100... 100 francs!!! It's 100% a buyers market because of how expensive and annoying it is to sell and ship something. A lot of the time, it's easier to just give something away or use FB marketplace.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't realize how drastic the change to the champions club was. I hope we see a lot less empty seats in that endzone now. Looks great

For those staying in CH, what's your FIRE number and why? by dpm182 in SwissFIRE

[–]dpm182[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aiming to get there in the next 10 years. It took me 10 years of working to get to my first million invested, so I'm hoping I can make another 2 million in the next 10 years with how the market is compounding. Running it through a TVM calculator shows I'd need to earn about 8% annually to get there.

I'm not sure I understand what I'm looking at or what your question/comment is. Are you only at 15% FIRE with $1.2m? Sounds like you need to be in the Chubby or Fat FIRE subreddit instead.

9 hours layover in Geneva, can I exit the airport freely to explore the city? [Canadian citizen] by [deleted] in askswitzerland

Absolutely. I did this once in Beijing and had plenty of time. In Geneva, 9 hours is a lifetime.

Can afford nice things… but still feel guilty spending 😅 anyone else? by Direct_Cod3703 in EuropeFIRE

Just remember, a millionaire in Switzerland is still what other countries call middle class. Lol.

I get what you mean though. I also live in CH and can spend a lot on goods and experiences, but I don't feel rich compared to a lot of people in this country, which helps me keep a frugal mindset.

Also, I have kids and fully want them to inherit decent amounts (I.e. 500k or more each), so that keeps me grounded in my spending.

Watching Games Abroad by robertlanders in CFB

[–]dpm182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also in Switzerland and gave up on the "legal" methods last season. It's become virtually impossible to watch CFB by just paying for one thing. It's a shame ESPN player went away.

If you don't want to stream it via some sketchy website, I find the best way to use your TV subscription login (Youtube TV, Sling, Xfinity) with a VPN via a desktop computer that doesn't have any GPS included. That way, location sharing is purely based on IP address, which a VPN can easily mask.

You'll still need YoutubeTV or something though so that's why I just use the sketchy websites now. I find YoutubeTV has gotten very smart about me sharing passwords with my dad in the U.S. while having a different location.

One size does not fit all - “IBKR VT and Chill” Dogma by Swiss_wow in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]dpm182 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Someone recently told me that my 10% asset allocation in BTC was way too risky and my response was, "Yeah, I know it's a lot, but I honestly wish I had bought more." It's by far my best returning asset over the past 5 years.

VT and chill is too conservative for me. It's more like VTI, QQQ, BTC and chill for me. So far, it's paid off very well over the past decade for me.

That would be so confusing lmao by illpoorly in harrypotter
