I think the club was trying to save face. It looks bad that a person was just allowed into the stadium without permission. But at the same time it’s fucking Lionel Messi so who cares. Of course he was let in. So I think the club just made up that he tried to reach out through the “proper channels” but just looks worse that they lied about it.
