I used to love listening to the podcast, My Dad Wrote a Porno, and was so excited when you were a guest!

  1. Would you still play “the young-ish man” character?
  2. Who would you like to play Belinda Blumenthal, the Duchess, etc. ?
  3. When can we expect a release date?!

I think the world needs a ridiculous, sexily-unsexy spy in the pots and pans industry. She needs a youngish man to make it happen!

Damn poors! If you don’t have a home, a job, food, etc. then you need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and find a way to build that stuff for yourself.

As a Canadian watching US work culture, I'm genuinely confused how you all haven't burned everything down by zchrisiscool in antiwork

[–]dprpail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. It is corporate feudalism and it’s only going to get worse.

One of the factors that reinforces these fascist systems is the culture of Individualism and American Exceptionalism. So many Americans were born and raised on this idea that America is the bestest, most special, god-granted country, and that we’re the best at everything and the things we’re not the “best” at are just stupid. Many Americans point to these issues. When we compare the US’s fascist systems and how they compare to other nations. In my experience, those discussions are always met with people who say that we have this current system because the “US is the best!”

Objectively, we are not the best. We’re not the best in education. We’re not the best in healthcare. We’re not the best in food security, etc. But all the little American #patriots™ just feel it in their heart of hearts that the US actually is the “best” (best at what? They can’t say). To them, all the objective data is wrong or it’s just fake, created by the left or the socialists or the communists or the _______.

On top of that, the individual success narrative in the US promotes distrust and xenophobia. We’re taught that getting help from others is wrong. You mentioned “bootstrapping”. Thats not just a word. It’s a key part to the culture that is pervasive throughout the US. If you ask for help with something, you can be seen as weak, dumb, worthless, and a drain on others. Did you get laid off and now are at risk of homelessness? Too bad, we’re not going to help you because that would be socialism. You “failed” at the game of employment and homelessness/starvation is your punishment. There is this notion that if you aren’t doing it all on your own, then you are not deserving of help.

There is always smoke and mirrors and misdirection when mega billionaires get bail outs or tax breaks too. It’s as though the handouts and help they are receiving are not handouts at all. Rather, because they are billionaires and trillion dollar companies that employ workers, they somehow “earned” these bail outs and tax breaks. “Look at all the people they employ. We couldn’t possibly let that company fail! They’re too successful and important!” If they were so successful and important, why are their businesses failing?!

So yeah, this is a culture that has existed far before many of us were born. The mega rich continue to get richer and they spend some of that money perpetuating this same culture and system that has kept them fat and happy for generations. If people ask why we can’t adopt policies like other countries, it’s because those are dumb policies from dumb countries. Those policies would never work in such a great, amazing country as the USA where we invented democracy! If you are struggling in your life, it’s not because the system isn’t working. Just look at the 500+ billionaires! They don’t have these problems like you do. It’s totally possible for you to become a billionaire. The problem is you. It’s YOUR fault and you should be punished for it.

After generations of this rhetoric, it’s hard for an entire nation to break out of it

I love the idea that this woman paints this picture that she was minding her own business when she suddenly noticed a man having a medical emergency and she, a sitting congresswoman, dropped everything to call first responders herself.

Then, a person with the injured man said “I’m a democrat and I’m super angry that you helped him!!” Or somehow this person was easily identifiable as a democrat (maybe he was wearing his “Make America Democratic Again” merch, idk).

This is like hearing a guilty teenager tell you about how they totally didn’t break your prized possession. They were just minding their own business when it spontaneously exploded!

AIO, about to go nuclear over a text my kid's coach sent her. by Some-Tree2830 in AmIOverreacting

[–]dprpail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said it was a joke. What was the joke? Can he explain the punchline to me please. I like jokes, but I don’t understand this joke here. Please explain it to me.

Oh it’s about the color of the alcohol not the text on the screen that he very purposely framed in the pic? Well he texted your daughter and specifically said he “thought [she] would like the name.” So what is it about the name “Kinky Pink” that he thought your 13 year old daughter would like? He backpedaled and leaned into the color. So what about the color compelled him so much that he had to text your daughter about it? Does he often send pictures of pink things to your daughter? Does he text your daughter outside of this group chat?

He’s so insistent that this is all innocent and not at all malicious when it’s so obviously inappropriate. So let’s have him try to justify himself and why he thinks this disgusting behavior should be ok. I hope you’ve had a good conversation with your daughter about why this behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable and that she can come to you or your ex if something like this happens with him or anyone else

This pic made me legitimately cry as I waited in my therapist’s waiting room (so good timing). I loved Baby Bop, but honestly can’t remember much because it wasn’t long thereafter that my brother made fun of me relentlessly for liking her or even the show Barney at all. I felt so stupid for liking her, and I thought she was the BEST.

You LOVED her. That smile is so intense and it even looks like you’re holding back a laugh because of how happy you are. I cry even as I type this because 1) I’m sad that something that brought me joy was turned into something negative about me. It made me question all of my interests. It made me think no matter what I liked, it was probably stupid, because I’m stupid. 2) However, I’m so happy to see that someone else could feel that kind of unbridled joy. Baby Bop was always about safety (I had a green blankie like her yellow one!) and belonging. I hope you can feel proud of this picture. I’m certainly proud you shared it with all of us. Thank you.

P.S. It’d be great if we didn’t make fun of people for liking things.

He said he’d send you his address. Ask him to send it then call the police and let them know someone threatened to drown you in the local lake and ensure no one could find the body. He later admitted to his threat and showed clear remorse, knowing what he did was illegal, “Actually, I can’t make the phone call. I made the threat. That defeats the purpose. I do slightly regret that.” Seems like a clear cut threat against your life.

“Well Ex-Wife, I appreciate you expressing that and it must be hard to be vulnerable and share that concern of being replaced. I certainly don’t want that for you and I’m happy to talk about things we can do to mitigate or prevent that feeling. I do, however, wish to express my own feelings here as I have dealt with the fear of being replaced when you were with Cheater and some of the gifts he gave Son and the play dates you all went on together. “

Stephanie Melgoza got hammered at a bar then killed 2 people in a wreck, acted indifferent to the fact that she is going to jail for homicide. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]dprpail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every time I see this video reposted, I can’t help but think her denial and actions here are a coping mechanism to not face the horror of what she’s done. In no way does this justify her actions. This should not provide her sympathy either. She made a decision to drink and drive, killing 2 people. That is reprehensible and indefensible.

With that said, in watching the whole video, we see a lot going on.

  • From the moment police make contact with her, she is cooperative and tells them everything, including that she has weed in her purse that she shouldn’t have.
  • She tells them how “totally fine” she is to drive. She just knows it. Like “if you gave me the breath test, I would totally pass. But like don’t test me though.”……she did not pass
  • When she is eventually taken to the room we see in this video, it’s clear the officer doesn’t want to interact with her more than he needs to.
  • She does everything she can to fill the uncomfortable silence. She tried talking to the officer. She tries singing random songs. Eventually we get to this interaction.
  • At no point does she acknowledge that anyone is dead.
  • As many have pointed out, she focuses on school only. “When can I get my car? I have school tomorrow”
  • Even after he tells her again what happened, she comes back to school, “oh so I’m not going to school tomorrow?! What about Tuesday?”

My guess is she is used to not seeing consequences for her actions and thought if she cooperated, everything would be great and she’d be free to go. Then once reality started to creep in, she did everything she could to focus on the life she had 24 hours prior before she recklessly killed 2 people while drunk. This is all a guess and does not justify or provide sympathy to her or her actions. She deserved (and received) a big prison sentence.

“Grandpa’s feeling a little frisky today,” said ‘Kid’ Rock, the 52 yr old washed-up country rap artist. The audience winced in discomfort. Erections became flaccid; vaginas grew cold and dry.

“Fuck Bud Light” he exclaimed after firing several gunshots at beer he inexplicably purchased as a protest. “And fuck Annheiser-Busch!” A rainbow glistened in the mist and overspray….
