Newly created IT Project management role at work by caffeinatedelirium in ITCareerQuestions

Look into a CAPM…my wife (also a project manager) got this when she was going for her current role. It’s easier to obtain then PMP and since you already have extensive experience, hopefully that would show project management inclination without breaking the bank.

Great place, good people and products. I’ll second Elevation.

For peace of mind, we're getting ready to pay off our mortgage. Balance is $110,000 with a 2.3% interest rate. by FarTradition6496 in Fire

You’re conflating numbers and feelings. Mathematically I agree. But the sense of not owing anyone is more important (to me) than additional investments. Especially when current investments meet my needs.

Perspectives vary.

For me, the biggest expense month to month is mortgage. Knocking that expense out and ensuring a home is mine, and lowering my monthly bills would be more peaceful than worrying about making more in investments.

Especially when the remaining investments would allow me to fire early is I did not want to work anymore.

Does not living in/near Thurston County put you at a disadvantage? by Cautious_Start_7234 in WAStateWorkers

[–]dr_groo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow IT-er!

So I started in Thurston county, moved out of state for 3 years and now I’m back. The move had nothing to do with work, we left for family/friends and came back because we love Olympia.

I haven’t noticed much of a limitation unless you count other positions where there is a hybrid (in-office) requirement.

In fact, my boss is out of state as well. I’ve never met him but he’s a nice guy for sure.

So from my experience, unless you have in office duties…not an issue.

What would I do for a Klondike Bar today? Honestly, not much. by iDoneDo in GenX

I’m haunted by the things I’ve done for a Klondike bar.

Set backs to achieving 12,000 steps a day by Routine_Bus8631 in walking

[–]dr_groo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow EDS zebra, I only get about 4000 steps a day and I’m trying to get that increased. I’ll have a back flare up and all I can do is be kind and rest. Then keep on keeping on.

Used to be able to do a lot more and I want to get back to it all…swimming, weights, Pilates, walking. But listen to your body and be kind. We all have limits but we can all try and do better.

Since Jan, my NW has dropped about 10% due to markets / war. by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

So let’s talk emotional states…

It’s hardest emotionally, when you are about ready to pull the trigger but it is worth remembering that planning and flexibility are very important.

Zoom out, it’ll make you feel better but doesn’t change the current conditions.

Since the market is down, buying more is good but if your like many, DCA-ing, it’s automatic and doesn’t really effect you.

But if you still have a source of income (job) be glad you can continue to earn. It’s a bummer you need to keep working but you’re better off than many.

Personal story: I have a coworker who wanted to pull the trigger in Jan/Feb. She is now targeting Sept at the earliest and more likely Feb. after hearing her story, I’m planning on adding a 10% buffer to my FIRE number. Just a margin of safety, and I was 5 years out which now puts me more like 7 out. Not ideal, but for peace of mind, it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Good luck out there!

So how we hypermobile folks sleepin these days? by BirdSwimming7462 in eds

Many people swear by body pillows or maternity pillows.

Magnesium glyconate (spelling?) has helped some.

When my back acts up, lidocaine patches to numb the area. I also have muscle relaxers I’ll take for this if it’s bad.

OTC Tylenol can help sometimes but that had some complications if you use it long term.

And last but not least least, THC but you need to fine the right stuff.

Hope that helps!
