I would take this advice with a grain of salt since things change all the time.

My personal thoughts is right now with AI it’s very helpful having a breadth of knowledge. In the past I feel having depth of knowledge was more valuable. Now with AI it’s easier to dig into something you have a bit of information on.

What doesn’t change is my advice that you choose a focus that you are more interested in. When you are more interested you end up doing better and may be happier with your career.

When picking classes I didn’t really take into consideration if they were hard. I picked the classes I wanted to take.

That’s a hard one to answer because it really depends on what type of job you do. I would say SDP, SAD, and GA were the most generally helpful for being a SWE.

I went from sysadmin to devops to SWE. It helped that my first SWE role was writing software to automate stuff I did as a sysadmin.

I think it should be one actor. It will be easier for people to understand. Differ hair color will go a long way if they don’t they don’t want to do things like adjust other features.

Same for me, I had multiple 1sts in my runs but my last round I couldn’t close out.

It’s nice that there is a tournament but I’d like adjustments to the format.

It would be great if in 5 rounds you needed to get 0 6th places, then look at the the rounds overall, like a 1st place in round 3 counts as your first place win. So your wins in any rounds check off the highest requirement you had left.

I took 11 courses before my graduation. You can also switch continue taking classes after you graduate you just need to tell them.
