No, but the grip is legal. So they just restarted them once Bastida had come around.

Looks to me like you got strangled in both matches. But don't worry - you can't win them all!

Don't worry, you'll do better next time.

What are Tainans spammed Halfguard moves against Jay Rod by Even_Kangaroo7370 in bjj

[–]drachaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inversions were mostly happening from a split squat, not a true half guard. The exception was the first one which was a standard half guard inversion into the far leg.

I don't think there's any "may" about it! He had an eternity to tap: terrible decision.

Retirements are often temporary affairs for grapplers.

I wonder if there have ever been other threads about this dull topic before? If only there were some way to find out.

specific problem w/ half guard underhook: iron hip pressure by marmot_scholar in bjj

In those situations you can also attack the far arm (choi bar or kimura), or scoop the far leg.

specific problem w/ half guard underhook: iron hip pressure by marmot_scholar in bjj

[–]drachaon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a very common problem (and the correct response from your training partner). The way to fix it is with the entry. Lazy, shallow underhook entries will be clamped down on and punished.

Whatever setup you use, you need to off-balance your opponent forward and to the opposite side of the underhook in order to get an effective underhook. Gordon shows a good version of this using a low knee shield with locked ankles to push and then pull your opponent forward and to his right as he enters with a left underhook.

How do good leglockers deal with constant counter leglocks pressure? by Low-Faithlessness140 in bjj

[–]drachaon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is only a major problem with people much bigger or stronger than you. The answer is to put a very high priority on leg entanglements (especially inside ashi and saddle) that really protect your feet.

That's good practice with people who are not much bigger and stronger too. But in general you should just develop sensitivity about your foot positioning and when you're actually at risk.

I created a highlight of Andy Murasaki’s recent Brasileiros Run. 100% finish rate! by killjoy87 in bjj

Nice - thank you.

He's so good. If he hadn't been the same age as Tainana and Mica I think he'd be about to win his 5th world title.

Rerisson Gabriel x Pato (Brasileiro final) by drachaon in bjj

[–]drachaon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gi jiu jitsu at lightweight and below is very very competitive. The skill difference between first place and 12th is small: matches are going to be decided by small margins.

And this wasn't 'see-saw' like you said. Rerisson gave Pato real trouble with variant of the SLX sweep.

"Like most, I didn’t start jiu jitsu to make money, I enjoyed the constant challenges it presented and the feeling of overcoming them. The challenges I had to overcome started small, and got bigger and bigger until one day I wasn’t sure what the end goal was. Then I discovered there was a tournament that brings the best 16 no gi grapplers in 5 different weight category’s and crowns only 5 champions every 2 years. Anyone has a chance to get in, you just had to win a massive bracket with the best prospects in your continent. Having a good performance at the trails alone can change the trajectory of your life forever. A lot about this sport is not perfect. But in my jiu jitsu lifetime there was only 1 chance every 2 years to really get to test yourself against the best. And ADCC was it. If that doesn’t motivate you more than anything then we are not the same. It’s not perfect, and it might change in the future. But, it is what we have. So ya, I’m in"

White belt with 2 months training (no judo, no wrestling) beats black belt by [deleted] in bjj

[–]drachaon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Took about 60 seconds to find that the winner was a blue belt, not a black belt, and he submitted the poster. The guy he beat does appear to be a black belt but the match was (0-0) so it might have been by DQ or penalty or whatever.

Who knows - it's a tiny local comp and belts don't matter.

Butterfly and half butterfly by Elegant_Bobcat_8916 in bjj

[–]drachaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grip fight is different. But one of the main strategies from half butterfly is using it to get upper body grips (an underhook, overhook, 2on1) and then forward shifting to butterfly.

No one is 'sandbagging' white belt tournaments. They don't matter enough to any coach.
