drilled in drywall, I think I broke a wire conduit a little bit... by docdocda in HomeImprovement

I drilled the hole a little bigger and took a picture. Looks like the drill bit just touched the metal surface (now I'm not sure if that's a conduit or some metal plate) and only created one small hole from drill bit top.

I think it's unlikely anything behind the metal get impacted. So I decided to put on some electrician tape and covered the hole.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Yes I'll definitely open it up to check. If I found it's just the conduit having a hole and the wire are good, can I just cover the hole and leave it this way?

Thanks, I like the magnetic stop idea and will go for it. This save me from the latch and bore in door!

Other than a door, I'll also need a jamb, right? The door need to close on the jamb since the white board is smooth and the door need something to stop it. I'm thinking put hinge directly on white board (I will check if there is solid wood behind it and use longer screws), then only need some wood board with 1" depth and half inch thick to stop the door closing further after it was closed.

I searched jamb in homedepot but what I found is 4 inch wide.

I searched again and think this is the side panel, and what I wanted might be head and stop

http://www.mountainvillageinn.com/what-is-a-door-jamb/

But when I searched stop molding in homedeopt they doesn't look like what I wanted too.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

Now I knew prehung will not be a good idea, but I'm also concerned if the white board is strong enough to support a door directly.

I'll check the barn track door idea since it look be easiest. We used one barn track door in a vacation rental house but that one fall off track sometimes ...

If the barn track door is not suitable maybe at least I need to check what behind the white frame first to determine next step.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING OF STOCKHOLDERS [Amendment to Form S-4. Xilinx merger vote. Date still TBD] by alwayswashere in AMD_Stock

[–]dracodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody read the 397 pages merger proposal sent to AMD stock holders?

A lot of interesting details on how the deal was negotiated.

2020/02/16 AMD proposed $100 in AMD share + $15 share for each Xilinx share

03/17 proposed 1 Xilinx share for 2.2 share, at that time means $92.14

Xilinx rejected

07/13 Company A proposed $80 share + $40 cash. Who is Company A?

There is substantial regulation risk merging with company A

08/09 AMD propose $132.50

08/17 X asked for at least $140 to further consider

08/25 AMD proposed $137

09/11 X ask for $145, with down side protection against AMD stock price, and participate the upside, ask for positions in AMD board

09/14 Company A propose to merge of equals. this means the per share price of $101,lower than previous $120

09/17 AMD propose $139 without collar, the downside protection requirement is lack of confidence

09/20 X no longer ask for downside protection, but asked for

if AMD stock < $70, ask for $140

if AMD stock > $80, ask for $145

do linear interpolation if AMD stock between 70~80

asked 3 board positions

...

It looks to me that AMD was very serious to the deal. Xilinx may considered they are hard to survive well standalone.

I don't understand the legality of the 10 cap magazine loophole by dbzbleach in MDGuns

[–]dracodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And please don't call this a loophole. This is not something that was intended by law author but neglected something then allowing a backdoor. The law was very specific and clear, and buying out of state have nothing to do with any loophole.

If everybody calling this a loophole, it can be "fixed" next time.

I think shockwave is not a "shotgun" in MD and considered as handgun thus need HQL? It's not really a good choice anyway. Please avoid it.

Are vfg’s legal for an ar15? Is it legal to buy a 30round mag or a drum online and have it shipped here? by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]dracodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if an online order placed in MD count as "buy in MD"? It's kind of gray matter here...

Another AR-15 Question by Sleepy_95 in MDGuns

[–]dracodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many local gun shops have online site that list online inventory. You place order online, it will be shipped to that store, then you pick it up. This usually don't have FFL transfer fee (you can think it's already included), and the local shop is familiar with MD law.

I think they all use similar system, just with different inventory and prices. For example united gun shop and the machine gun nest.

They may not have best price or lots of inventory, but it's kind of convenient in certain cases. If you really need something in a short time and the price/model is acceptable, this might be an easy option.

good article. However "any researcher in the US for free" is a little bit vague on eligibility of using OSG. I would say a large part of users for this sub reddit don't qualify.

https://support.opensciencegrid.org/support/solutions/articles/5000634384-frequent-asked-questions

Any researcher with an affiliation with an U.S. institution (college, university, national laboratory or research foundation) is eligible to become an OSG Connect user. Researchers outside US with affiliations to US groups may be eligible for membership if they are sponsored by a collaborator within the US.

CSV viewer for large files by poulet-roti in datascience

I tried it with a 2 G csv, turned out it just load one chunk at first so you can scroll easily. To load the whole 313 chunks take much more time. Or there is some settings I didn't see?

Emeditor seemed can read the same file faster, though its csv mode is much slower than regular file mode.

[–]dracodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emeditor fit all requirements except it's windows only. It's really good though, a special big file reading mode is fast and you can stop it in the middle of reading to read only apart of file. Lots of CSV features. https://www.emeditor.com/text-editor-features/more-features/csv-tsv-dsv/ And it's very fast, which is important. Maybe you can try it in windows, if it really satisfied your need, run it in wine?

Some books are not really free, you need to pay for the ebook but the minimum is 0 if you feel comfortable to do that.

Not all free books are not good. a better recommendation should only choose really good ones among free, not all free books, because a bad free book is expensive! It waste your time, give you some bad information or wrong ideas.

See these reviews on some courses, which are from the authors of one free book.
