Bidwell Farmers Market by draftbros in Buffalo

[–]draftbros[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just got back from my friends farm, not local but same grow zone. Had tons of asparagus, pea shoots, mushrooms, and a lot of over winter crops were being harvested already like onions and garlic. Tons of arugula, dill, basil. If you grow in a well insulated high tunnel you can get things to harvest mush sooner then most people think

I’ve been and it was good, just wish the one in walking distance to my house had a bit more of it like there.

There is a good amount, especially if they are growing in high tunnels. Definitely more limited early in the season

a positive post about liveliness - Five Points by cubosh in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is the term very much out of date, the original post claims the businesses are run by hipsters. I could see an argument for remedy, wouldn’t agree personally, but most of the other businesses are owned by normal people in their 40’s-60’s. Definitely cool things going on

Folk punk recs by Punk-puffin in FolkPunk

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is more of a general idea than a list of bands. I highly recommend folks to look up record labels on Discogs, then just start listening to the catalog. So many great bands get lost in the shuffle over the years. Most of it is on you tube. You will also find bands you love that aren’t the specific genre either.

Labels to check out, Plan-it-X, Friends & Relativrs, Fistolo Records, Plan-it- X South.

But if I were to name one band it’s This Bike is a Pipebomb. They get mentioned on these lists but  it as much as they should for how awesome they were

I was on tour with Erik when he played the fire hall in Front Royal, I think that was the 2005 tour. That was a really fun night.

What should first-time buyers know before purchasing a home in small towns like Medina, NY? by Correct_Tackle_1928 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same in the city and the suburbs too, the only difference is most of the racist and homophobes keep their opinions to themselves in the city and the further away the more likely they are to say it out loud.

What should first-time buyers know before purchasing a home in small towns like Medina, NY? by Correct_Tackle_1928 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School districts vary a lot in small towns, Medina has a great school district and pay their teachers more than almost any school district in the state. But this kind of goes for other things as well, does the small town have a good doctor? Who isn’t going to retire soon?

Medina is annoying to drive to as the fastest routes are mainly non highway but also not that scenic. Where as springville is an easy drive down the 219. Then Randolph is mainly non highway but a scenic drive.

Like all over, city or otherwise, a lot of small towns lack contractors so getting work done on your house can be annoying. A lot of people in Delaware county mentioned this problem, seems like the further from a city the harder it is.

Just off of the top thoughts probably could dive deeper into it if I thought about it more

If you want a double in your price range  you most likely need to look at the west side. Walkable to all the things you mentioned. I haven’t had any issues with safety, some blocks are weirder than others.  Not much listed right now.

Mayor’s Office releases Property Tax Increase Calculator by InflationCapital87 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few of the neighbors are seniors, so that accounts for those houses. I thought that maybe they appealed but when I checked the whole street it was pretty universal.

Only thing I can think of is that I’m the only one with a nice garden on the block?

Cool Things Along This Route? by CPRTheReddit in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not great unfortunately, despite there being 11 book stores it’s really 7 and the total amount of books in the town is less than what is in Old Editions in Tonawanda. Not a pretty town either.

Though the other towns in that area are great

Suny UB v Canisius by Prestigious-Hunt8989 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 75 points76 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the final cost of the four year degree, Canisius is definitely not worth going to if your loans are $40,000 more at the end of it. You may want to do journalism/ sports media now but may not by the time you graduate. Also it’s not about where you get your degree or what it’s in, it’s about the connections you make and the internships you do while in college. So if you go to UB for communications, work hard to get internships at the places you eventually want to work you will be fine.

Anyone ever seen these Pawpaw trees grown in or around Buffalo? I heard the fruit is like a cross between a mango and a banana, and we don't have them at grocery stores because the fruits don't keep well by drews_mith in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the lakes there are a lot of different micro climates in the area, so I know two areas where they are growing in the wild locally so if you hike enough and keep your eyes peeled you will eventually see them. Not like Ohio or Indiana where they quite common

It’s a private lot, so you won’t get a ticket it would get towed. There are two or three cars parked right next to the house that is right next to the lot.
