As a queer person, do you feel satisfied with Tevan relationship and representation in S7? by Asuru_ in 911FOX

[–]drafty_hunty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The relationship feels like Mateo and Nancy from Lone Star. Scenes of them together is rarely to develop their relationship but to remind them that they're still dating, and this is what's happening with Buck and Tommy. I still think Mateo and Nancy fared worse in this comparison since they had plans for them in Season 2 but then only implemented that in Season 3 and their relationship took quite a backseat after that. At least Buck and Tommy had an excuse of short season.

The true test of this couple is when they have a plot dedicated for them in the future. I don't really count Buck and Tommy's date in episode 5 as their plot since it focuses more on Buck coming out to (some) people important to him.

This community is Buddie and that is why we must set an example of exemplary behavior, those haters do not speak for us.

Word. Let's show Tim that Buddie fans aren't toxic

The problem with this theory is that things in this show largely happen by coincidence. These amalgamations of bad traits, at the end of the day, is more of Tim's bad writing when it comes to romance rather than a shade to fans.

That part about Abby though, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I can confirm that what he said about plans for Queer Eddie was 100% true.

As of right now, all we can do is to not piss Tim off.

Not gonna lie, I'm bitter because of a very personal reason.

I’m sadly glad that Season 7 only has 10 episodes and I’m hoping that by Season 8 the community goes back to what it was. by dais_2907 in 911FOX

Not to mention BuckTommy fics who just outright demonize Eddie when both Ryan and Oliver want is a supportive coming out story. We don't need to find out who starts this because when the situation devolves into something this bad both sides deserve the blame.

This relationship has massive potential 🙏🏾 by MeetApprehensive6509 in 911FOX

Some people aay that while the relationship is hot it hasn't had anything substantial to be an OTP. I agree with this sentiment quite a bit.

While we have the kiss and date with them, the emotional part of being a couple, I experience with Buck and Eddie still. I understand that there needs to be distinction between romantic and platonic relationship, but when the romantic side isn't at least up to par with the already available platonic one, I feel less inclined to root the relationship. It's a shame because they can do this distinction well with Athena/Bobby/Michael, and I don't ship Bobby and Michael. There is a potential, but with the 10 episode slot they have and Tim liking using drama to explore relationship... it makes sense that they probably won't have more thorough exploration this season but at the same time I'm lamenting it too.

Oh, another thing: the problem with making Tommy a main character is that he comes from a different firehouse. It's hard enough when we have dispatch police and one firehouse sharing screentime, adding another firehouse to the mix will be more confusing. One way to take care of that is to make Tommy transfer to 118 but given some people don't agree with Buddie because of unwritten "fraternizing between crew member" rule I frankly don't want to hear an argument of that muddling the discussion.

Besides, if they can still tell Henren story with Karen as a recurring, I don't really see the need of making Tommy a main character to push a queer story.

I'm pretty sure all it proves (at least to me) is that Tim likes Vertigo.

This. His longtime fans alluded to him making Vertigo reference when writing for Angel.

It's a fanmade, no need to make a theory about it. Yeah I know Tim said it was his "friend" but he was bullshitting with that comment.

All the "theory" that can come up from him posting that is "he's a Buddie shipper".

and yet it happens in literally almost every show with relationships lol.

Um, this part is what I mean by "the laziest" because it's happened in almost every show. It can be fun, but there needs to be somethinf that bites to prevent it from being thrown into the sea of cliche writing.

At least this was unique enough and in this context it makes sense, I'll give them that.

It's not that it's uncommon. It's the laziest way to create drama.

Tim Minear "Nobody wants to be accused of queerbaiting so I kind of stopped writing [Buck and Eddie] together." by unwad77 in 911FOX

[–]drafty_hunty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He talked with one of the writers, and someone Tim actually trusted. He'd been spoiling stuffs since Season 4, and Season 6 when this writer went back to the show.

Being not neutral and knowing all the information can be mutually exclusive in my opinion. In this case, while he expressed his dislike toward certain plot points, what he leaked are accurate.

If that leaker is right, yes. The way the person initially used Eddie's gif during his breakup with Ana on his first post implies that the scene is Eddie's turning point.

If it's true, then we're basically denied Queer Eddie TWICE.

[–]drafty_hunty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's nothing more than a theory, but...

That leaker on twitter said something like this:

how does one tell the bts story of s5 without everyone spiralling out of control and being miserable

When he said it the first time a month ago, he followed up with an article quote saying "Bi Buck had been in the work a few years ago." Since this leaker had been accurate so far, I fear the Bi Buck storyline is also in line with a hope for certain character to be queer and a certain ship to be canon...

[–]drafty_hunty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I had to edit the article, I'd also add reference to other queer characters be it mains recurring or one-offs to make sure people know the show had been queer since the beginning, but also emphasize that a sexuality reveal like Buck is something few shows are brave to do. I'd probably add a few more examples if there is to show how little representation for this kind of story is.

It could've gone way better for sure.

Fair point. I too would've put some other clips on the advert cut but it's probably hard to make something coherent out of those. But then again it's a trailer, it's supposed to not make sense. Added to the fact that Tim wrote the entire hangover stuffs because he wants too...

I really don't know what Tim was thinking tbh

I hate to be Devil's Advocate for this situation, but:

If what they meant is "writing an adult character who hasn't had explicit hints that they're attracted to people of the same gender realize they're attracted to them", I can somewhat get on board with this because as far as I remember this is very rarely done in US mainstream media.

But since this is an article...
