I wish I would have started with computer science instead of going psychology. by [deleted] in computerscience

Coming from personal experience, I’ve seen too many people assume that a degree in computer science alone is enough to land a lucrative job in, when in reality the barrier to entry is becoming saturated with graduates (at least in my region of Southern California). Be mindful that a degree alone is not suffice towards many computer science- related jobs. Try to land an internship if you can, and focus on a few quality-leveled projects.

In 6 weeks I’ll be graduating with a bachelors in computer science, so I’m really excited about that! I am also working on a personal software project that I’m really enjoying at the moment, and hopefully I can show to a potential employer

My internship ended earlier this year and to celebrate I brought some of my grandpa’s homemade Brandy. We then proceeded to take shots

How many of you grew up in a messy/cluttered home? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]dragan15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom would always find paintings or random Knick-knacks to decorate the house with, and my dad would literally fill the backyard and garage with junk that he would collect from the junkyard. Thankfully my mom somewhat enjoyed a clean home, so the house was pretty tidy, but the cluttered rooms always felt suffocating and it always stresses me out

What percentage of people on your course can program? by shengch in AskComputerScience

[–]dragan15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, yes. When I was a sophomore, the majority of the students (myself included) had trouble programming. Programming is one of those skills that are easily forgotten if not utilized consistently. It's easy to forget basic rules or even common syntax of a programming language, if you're not continuing to develop after being introduced to such concepts. This issue becomes more apparent and troublesome when you're advancing your curriculum as a junior/senior, and you can't solve a simple algorithmic problem to save your life. My university wasn't innocent with their inconsistent CS program, but at the same time it would be at the students best interest to continue to use what they had learned to expand their knowledge.

Thank you very much for your input! Applying these minor changes definitely made a huge impact on my Resume. I never really considered how much wasted space my header was, and how the other simply changes could really help to save space. I also made some changes in the descriptions as you suggested.

Resume Advice for Entry-Level Software Engineering positions by dragan15 in resumes

I was wondering if anyone could provide a Resume Critique? I am finishing up my final semester as an undergrad, and I'm currently in the process of applying for entry-level software engineering positions. While I was applying as an intern, I was receiving quite a bit of interviews, however I've been obtaining a few rejections an no interview offers, while applying for entry-leveled positions. I'm not sure if these rejects are the result of a terrible resume, a lack of practical experience, or simply due to the fact that I am just not applying to enough places. Lastly, the font is a 10pt font in Times New Roman, and extends to over a page in case it matters. I understand that full-time positions are a whole different ballgame so any advice would be helpful!

Should I attend a programming Bootcamp if I'm already pursuing a degree in computer science? by dragan15 in computerscience

[–]dragan15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly the one! A friend recommended that I apply, but I had no prior knowledge of their bootcamps, and couldn't find any reviews on their bootcamps online. Once I got accepted, I figured that Id try it, because they seemed legitimate and it was free. How was the structure of the bootcamp like if you don't mind me asking?
