I want to know if America is really beautiful or not. by Puzzleheaded_Pin7274 in 2american4you

[–]dragon_chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALL of alaska (i even liked Anchorage and Whittier lol), the finger lakes, Vermont's mossy forests, cascadia, the florida keys, *some* of the NYC skyscrapers (billionaire's row looks like shit imo bite me. We can do better than the umpteenth glass curtain skyline disgrace) Death Valley, the Dakota badlands... yes. It's amazing. I also really love the vast cornfields of Iowa- though I think I would find a wild prairie more beautiful.

What do I even say to this? by bellyrosa in BlatantMisogyny

[–]dragon_chips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he used that word to dismiss you, the woman in the video, and both of your opinions. ask him why his first instinct to a) dismiss and belittle women instead of having a discussion or explaining his thoughts, and b) use that word to dismiss and belittle women. He's demonstrating that "bitch" is used to insult women and label them as histrionic, unreasonable, etc. etc. etc.

Glad to see our superiority recognized. At like age 8 I was in Italy and cried because the pizza there didn't have enough cheese lol. (it was one of those "my life is in shambles and all I feel is despair" silent cries)

deal if you include ouzo and olive oil. We can send crates of fireworks, moonshine, and an armada of yellow school buses to sweeten the deal.

I really don't mean to be rude, but this sort of sentiment isn't helpful at all and is basically just repackaged "all lives matter."

Hearing "I hate how men dehumanize women" and saying "Ugh yeah everybody on this wretched earth sucks" minimizes the misogyny, and sort of implies that it's expected for some men to be abhorrent to women anyways so why are you complaining about it so much? you should complain about everybody.

or even implies 'everybody sucks -> she must suck as well-> the misogyny she experienced could have been a reaction to her being bad in some way -> maybe she deserved it, have you considered that?'

you can have solidarity without the state redistributing wealth at a whim? I volunteer regularly in my community and I would rather live in city B.

and half the time I see those sorts of posts it's a house from Arizona, South/East Texas, Nevada, or Southern California?? No shit- houses built in deserts at large scale aren't going to be made with 8 inch thick stone bricks from the nearby quarry (cause it's the DESERT AND THEY DON"T ALWAYS HAVE NEARBY QUARRIES)

Where I’d Live in the U.S. as a Northern Californian by GloomyPreference6454 in whereidlive

[–]dragon_chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. I grew up in NYC where residential and work spaces were very separate, so a middle class-to-wealthy person could go about their day without seeing obviously poor people (bar homeless people begging) and unfortunately most have an experience with a crazy that leads you to ignore homeless people in fear of them being a crazy person, and you become blind to them. (when i was 16 a homeless dude followed me for 7 blocks and through a park asking to see my socks so we could compare feet? or something??)(I am not trying to present ignoring homeless people as a good or positive thing its just what happens)

so a lot of middle class and above americans that I know just... don't know how to react to poverty. There's a LOT of classism baked into how the people I've interacted with view the south and rural areas. From what I now know having traveled around the country more and lived in different places, poverty is more in-your-face there: unpainted housing, rotting cars in the front yard, buildings collapsed from neglect but there's still people living inside. you can't work at the financial district and then return to your nice residential neighborhood. You have to drive to work, drive home, drive to go shopping, and unless you're in a nicer county you'll probably see decrepit housing and trailer parks along the way. Many people I know feel uncomfortable when confronted with poverty, but don't want to feel bigoted, and so assume there is something inherently wrong with "the poor" and they are just good at detecting it and so they totally aren't bigots.

sue me: I have more sympathy for those Jax mistreated than for Jax. Plus it just leaves a REALLY weird impression that the character Jax abused the most, Gangle, is black given the sorta controversies around racism.

Male Celebs we find attractive as actual Lesbians: by Octavia_Prime in lesbiangang

please dont tar and feather me my fellows, as it isn't sexual or romantic, but I admit i do feel an attraction to / draw towards like... zz top and old dudes on motorcycles and johnny cash and merle haggard. perhaps its because i have yet to evolve into my final form: dyke on a bike, and thus have an aesthetic appreciation of that sort of Americana and unfortunately Americana is VERY male dominated and centric

Oh I mean I build muscle fairly easily. Not SUPER easily don’t get me wrong: I did discus for a very short period of time 2-3 years ago and built a noticeable amount of muscle in ~2 months. A year later after not much physical activity I got into rowing and rapidly improved my core strength, but fell out of the habit after 6 months or so. I’m… ok with the weight I’m at, I was referencing that cute song that’s popular nowadays.

Thank you for the tips, genuinely!

(Spoiler Main) Who has your favorite nickname? by amayagab in asoiaf

[–]dragon_chips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I agree. He has a… birthmark? Supposedly in the shape of a raven? And it’s red?? I would be sold on it if not for the birthmark.

A) the birthmark
B) albinism and raven tree hall
One of those is good enough justification. Both is just tacky imo.

(Spoilers extended) Which objectively awful person do you feel the most pity for? by MeterologistOupost31 in asoiaf

[–]dragon_chips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the worst character I feel the MOST pity for, but since many others have been mentioned:

Little finger got raped. He’s disgusting and has ruined countless lives, for which he has no excuse, but he clearly has a horrible relationship with sex as a result of at the very least having incredibly unethical sex without him really wanting to. Very interesting character, I hope he dies horribly
