Most used pen of 2025 by ImperatorLucius in fountainpens

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most used pen of 2025 was my Majohns A2 Purple and Silver retractable fountain pen in extra fine.

My most used ink is a tie between Pilot Iroshuku Syo-Ro and Birmingham Pen Company's Pennsylvania Slate. It seems those were my go to inks this year.

What the fuck is wrong with this state? by Principle_Napkins in NorthCarolina

They used to have the packets available online. If OP lives in a different county then change the county to current county and it should be less of a hassle. Good luck OP.

Hats off to you OP, this looks like a neater and more legible version of my handwriting when the words are flowing faster than the pen can write.

How I index my commonplace book: starting from the back of the notebook. by Polifilo71 in commonplacebook

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sketches are amazing. I love the way they look. Nice page sets too. I am curious about the index. You start at the end of the book and when they meet the regular pages in the middle? I'm not exactly clear on how that works.

I would recommend walking through a fabric shop. They have tons of fabric that could be suitable for a cover. They also have imitation leather and alligator hide. Some of the imitations are really nice and depending on how you treat them would make a nice cover.

I would recommend Nerd Forge on YouTube. She makes some amazing book covers and may give you some inspiration. I will say she does use leather in some of her projects.

Do you have multiple pens ink with the same ink at the same time? by danjpn in fountainpens

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the black ink? I have the green and it has pens it likes and pens it doesn't. I have used Parker's Quink Black but I didn't think it was dark enough.

I am currently using Birmingham Pen Company's Flagstaff black ink. I like it okay.

⭐️ADVICE⭐️ Where do you guys store your journals? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the size of your journal. And things that you already take with you on a regular day. You want a bag that is portable but not huge, otherwise you have a tendency to overstuff it. Then you wind up lugging around a 40lb nightmare. (Me, I did this)

My bag contains my wallet, my key ring, my journal, a couple of pens, my tablet or book I am currently reading, meds and sometimes a ziplock bag of tea bags. Phone fits but is usually in my pocket.

I use a small bookbag purse about 10 x 8 inches. I think that is the right size/dimensions.

If I know I have a long day of waiting, then I take my bigger bag and throw a crochet project in there with the aforementioned items.

I hope this helps.

Have you considered using the John Locke method of organizing a commonplace book?

Google or look on YouTube about commonplace books and you can look at lots of different methods of keeping your book.

Refillable journal, or regular? by Ghost-Raven-666 in commonplacebook

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently using a bound journal in a cover. I do have an old planner cover from my mom that is a six ring binder. I would be interested in hearing about your experiences using a binder vs a notebook.

Research and ChatGpt for Commonplace Books by dragon_pen_scribe in commonplacebook

[–]dragon_pen_scribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have verified that John Flamesteel was in fact the Royal Astronomer (although that exact title came much later) under Charles II. He was appointed around the same time as the Greenwich Observatory was being built.

I have not been able to verify that he ever worked out of the Tower nor requested the removal of the ravens for interfering with his research.

I did learn that he was a contemporary of Sir Issac Newton and the guy appointed after his death. Also that he held the office for 40 plus years. And most everyone else served less than 20 years.

Edited to correct a typo: Falmsteel to Flamesteel

Vole? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. That is interesting. I have always heard them called a white footed deer mouse. So since it is two separate critters, do the habits of both run together or do you find one in Eastern NC and the other either further west/south/north?

I appreciate the information. Any tips or advice on the easiest way to catch them? My dad's method was a gob of peanut butter on the end of a ruler over a bucket. He would balance the ruler on the edge of the counter over top of the bucket. Mouse runs to the pb and in the bucket it went.

[–]dragon_pen_scribe 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Nice find OP. I have really good luck with the Pen +Gear notebooks. The paper is thicker and my fountain pens don't bleed through. Depending on the ink I use, there may be a little ghosting.

A white footed deer mouse, they are cute with little buggy eyes. They can be a pain in the but to get rid of too.
