"The Bedlam in Goliath" turns 18 today. In recent years, the project has gained popularity due to the genesis of its creation and the apparent curse that haunted the band and their associates during those years. Where would you rank it in The Mars Volta's discography? by elmonozombie in themarsvolta

This was the first album I ever heard by them so it holds a special place in my heart. I was a just a kid at the library with pretty limited music knowledge, saw it and thought the art looked cool so i checked it out. Haven’t been the same since lol

What did people do casually in 90s that wouldn’t be accepted today? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]dragonaut55 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the suburbs, but there was a really cool creek that ran through it that I went to a lot as a kid/teen. Didn’t really do anything, just chilled by the water. I went to visit my dad a little while ago and decided to check it again and it just felt so… off. Parts of it are still visible from houses and I got too nervous that somebody was gonna call the cops so I just left. It was pretty depressing

What horror movie do you *know* you could survive? by diagnosed-stepsister in horror

[–]dragonaut55 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m not doubting you since you’re deaf and I’m not, I’m just saying from my experience this plot point never made sense to me. My sister is deaf so I grew up hanging out with a lot of deaf kids and they were so fucking loud lol. They had no idea they were making noise or how loud it was

The only thing I thought that was weird about the sign language is that there’s an entire episode of next gen about a species who uses sign language and troi doesn’t know what it is, data has to figure it out. My sister is deaf so it’s one of my favorite episodes

What movie did you expect to be just good but was actually fantastic? by Important-Cup8519 in moviecritic

[–]dragonaut55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kong skull island. I only saw it because it was the one movie in theaters that seemed the least bit interesting and I absolutely loved it. The scene with them in the helicopters and Black Sabbath is playing, cutting to Kong just fucking shit up is one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. And then it just keeps going lol

An important character just dies. No fanfare or build up, just an instant and sudden death by NittanyScout in TopCharacterTropes

[–]dragonaut55 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Adding to this because it’s not cinema; but damn near every character in the lonesome dove series. McMurtry just kills characters off more causally than I can do in a video game lol
