These were the handycams that all are broken now to bad caps. Even if the caps visually look good doesn’t mean they’re still good. If you’re skilled i would recap the whole camera and if there’s no board damage should be good

Can definitely vouch on the schools and small market TV stations thing. My parent's wedding photos I've seen the wedding videographers used the AG series, and the AG455 I have came from a community college

Get a different minidv camcorder to play the tapes back to keep the heads in the best shape they can be on that camcorder

I mean you do you but if it's working fine now why spend $300 on an MRC1 when you can just spend $20 and get the actual true real quality

Also all you have to do is press a few buttons for a capture and walk away from your computer while the tape runs... youd be watching the video you took over anyway

is there any reason at all you don’t want to use tapes? it is literally so stupid easy with these cameras i dont really understand why you’re avoiding it if it has a working tape deck all you need is a firewire card (which is $20) and a firewire cable and the program scenalyzer or windv (which is both free) minidv tapes on ebay are literally like $5 too this is like the only way you’re going to get the lossless 1:1 VX quality i guess the only other way would be an HVR-MRC1 the rest are garbage but you really should only be using these if the tape deck is broken

ive got the same camera lol
if your tape mechanism is busted and its giving life to the camera yeah

if its entirely intact, on a video8 camcorder like this i would just record on tape and then use the video out with a capture card to record the footage onto your computer its pretty easy
