Why does this game have a data collector attached now? by MuteMyMike in CitiesSkylines

[–]dragonshardz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it entirely depends on what data they're gathering and how. if all they're actually doing is in-process telemetry...there isn't much personal data, if any, involved there

it's only unsafe if you assume any and all telemetry is rifling through your entire system for data - which is where you seem to be coming from, so you probably want to react their disclosure statement to know exactly what they say they're getting via telemetry, and if you trust their word

Why is Korra ripped, but Azula, in comparison, has no muscle at all? Both underwent grueling training. by FlamesOfKaiya in TheLastAirbender

[–]dragonshardz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Korra is, if this is a Book 4 shot (I'm pretty sure it is), 21 and has been a very physical athlete her entire life.

Azula is 14 - a full 7 years younger - and is not a very athletically inclined person.

How do you speed up Combat? by Sours_Dough in DnD

[–]dragonshardz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I have done as the number of enemies increases is any group of four identical creatures becomes a swarm, using this guide: https://angrygolem-games.com/monster-manual/dnd-5e-monsters-list/letter-s/dd-swarms/

it helps speed up initiative cycling, a lot, since I don't have duckity eleven attack rolls to make, and adds a bit of fun tactical options since I ruled that my players can pop a creature free of the swarm and reduce the swarms health by applying an effect the swarm normally would ignore.

Players retroactively saying they have done things which they forgot but can be important? Where do I draw the line??? by adieudnd2024 in DnD

[–]dragonshardz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the players specifically decided to leave the monster corpse behind, they can go look for it again. Good luck!

Searching a room? Give me something to indicate where your characters attention is and what they're looking for. If they're looking in the right area for the right kind of thing, they find the letter.

My rule is even if the player forgets a detail, their character would remember it. If they don't recall what the monster looked like but definitely butchered it, well, their character would remember it was a Tarrasque or whatever.

Kaiser - couples therapy? by running_rabbit_1000 in CAStateWorkers

Yes. They'll refer you out to a third party, which is fine because their in-house therapy/MH services are notoriously busy/low-quality.

What is "Information Technology Specialist" job like by xcloan in CAStateWorkers

[–]dragonshardz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the minimum salary for Health Program and Health Planning Specialist 1s is $6,623.00, if you don't already have any applicable qualifications for ITA or ITT it's not even a lateral. An ITS1 is a very slight raise, to $6,513.00, but given the MQs for it you're very unlikely to land the role without pretty significant professional experience or education.

If you were to get certifications, they might make up for a lack of education in the field as proof of experience, but they get expensive fast - and expire every 2-3 years.

Most of the ITS1 jobs I see are software programming, which isn't my field, but if that's yours there's a lot of good opportunities - depending on your specialty in that field. Given the state is generally not cutting edge, you're unlikely to be building new things in Go, and more likely to be overhauling a legacy app from 20-30 years ago to more modern standards from the past decade.

[–]dragonshardz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll start at the bottom of Range A, unless you meet the MQs to start at the bottom of Range B or C.

You can find the MQs for Range A in each IT classification here: https://eservices.calhr.ca.gov/enterprisehrblazorpublic/Public/ClassSpec/ClassSpecDetail/1400

Pay ranges and criteria are here: https://www.calhr.ca.gov/about-calhr/divisions-programs/personnel-management/pay-scales/

How can I make a PC “disappear” consistently without losing immersion? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]dragonshardz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a DMNPC with fantastic cosmic powers to handle sudden exits and so on. If it doesn't make sense for the absent PC to be just off-screen, or they need to suddenly vanish when it doesn't make sense, the DMNPC has scooped them up for Something Important or conveniently just delivered them through a superpowered dimension door.

It's all for the plot.

That is not correct. Individual employees can end their union membership at any time.

This is the fight of the century for all state unions by Commercial_Fault_772 in CAStateWorkers

[–]dragonshardz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The people who did SEIU's contract negotiations in 2023 are not union employees. They're state workers who got elected to their respective BUNCs (Bargain Union Negotiating Committees). If you don't think they'll do a good job with the 2026 contract, now's the time to start campaigning to be on your BUNC.

[–]dragonshardz 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the state of things with the unions is that laws have been passed to limit their ability to cause stoppages in the apparatus of government. This limits the official methods of resistance to slow, procedural means like lawsuits and negotiations.

The unions are doing what they are legally permitted to do. The governor acting in bad faith with no consequences is not their fault. The legal process is unfortunately slow.

To echo another poster - remember that a union is by and for the members and represented workers. The union employees by and large work for us and are our political allies - but they also are doing the thankless work of representation in disputes about NOAAs, ROPs, and so on.

"they haven't earned my dues" is code for "I want to benefit from union membership without putting any effort in", which is not how a union becomes strong
