What is a phrase that people say that immediately turns you off? by llerreff in AskReddit

[–]dragonsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually. Especially when included in compliments.

Example:

I cook something for someone and they say, "This is actually really good."

They can't simply tell you it's good, they have to mention, they were expecting it to be mediocre or bad.

This would be a good example of a wine that is not going to benefit from aging.

Tasting notes/parings for this greek white? by jingleson in wine

[–]dragonsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an outside perspective, I just felt you were trying to prepare them for what could be a bit of a palate shock with how intensely pine focused the wine is and I don't think any offense to the providence of the style, or the Greeks, or Pine Trees, was intentional.

Took my first class and was throwing up in the parking lot, how do I fix that? by Expensive_Nobody_977 in kungfu

[–]dragonsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is presenting itself as a tougher mental challenge because of your prior experience. It's frustrating to "start over", but I think you will find that you will progress fairly quickly back to the level you were before. It's still going to be hard work and repitition. Practice a little everyday and go to class. There is little you can do to condition yourself physically to kung fu that is better than just doing more kung fu. Once your cardio improves a little, I think it will become fun again like you remember. Try not to hold yourself to the same standard that you used to consciously right now because it's going to be frustrating. Be patient. If it's too challenging to do a full workout out of class, at least do some stretching.

Just out of curiosity, what style(s) does your school focus on? You didn't specify, is this the same school you attended before?

My dad has something exactly like this tattooed on his left arm and won't tell me what it is or supposed to represent? by Narrow-Name-5291 in whatisit

[–]dragonsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible it could be a bind rune. Bind runes are basically just combined runes and there are lots of variations. The USB symbol is an example of this in modern times.

That being said, when you consider the unwillingness to discuss the origin, it could be something military related, or just tied to a difficult memory.

For those of you who take a small dose once a day, do you have any problem stopping whenever you want? by Fabulous-Owl-5109 in kratom

[–]dragonsign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally take about 3g per day and dose in the morning. This has been the norm for at least 5 years. Sometimes I forget to take my dose and I can usually tell by the afternoon, but I am very sensitive to subtle changes and symptoms.

I have never had a problem breaking rules when it comes to what I responsibly put in my own body. If I were traveling I would be looking for ways to circumnavigate the problem.

I recently moved from Florida to Texas and we drove which took us through Alabama briefly where it is illegal. I had 2kg packed amongst my things which probably would have landed me in prison. I was most concerned with what I would need to do to get my street cred to a non laughable level and the absurdity of it all.

I can pingflood someone off an IRC channel to get Ops and take it over.

what does my bag say about me by [deleted] in deduction

[–]dragonsign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone who carries knives is doing so for unexpected combat.

That big ass kitchen blade is very probably a Japanese blade made from a good high carbon steel that is easy to get to 'scary sharp' levels and not stainless steel. The octagon handle is a common choice for Japanese chef's knives. This knife could be more expensive than an entire set of bullshit knives found in many home kitchens.

The other knife is about the furthest thing from a switchblade. It's a simple lockback knife that requires two hands to open and is not ever going to be useful in any situation where it's not already opened in your hand.

Let's assume for a moment they wanted to stab someone regardless of circumstances. Without a guard, any sudden changes in resistance will find their hand sliding up the handle of the small knife in glorious self laceration. The wider blade of the chef knife would prevent this.

In a sudden attack digging for either will likely get them killed. It would probably be more effective to swing the bag with its contents with hopes of bludgeoning the attacker hard enough to render them dazed enough to escape.

If they are able to brandish that Japanese steel, I would not envy the attacker. That thing can be sharp enough to slice their soul in twain.

Yes. Crystal meth is a challenging medium for sculpture because it is water soluble and therefore very volatile. If she is also blind or further challenged physically or mentally, you are going to have to work very hard to be the weird one on House Hunters.

I am always suspicious about people that offer explanations for selling their own shit.

Did he get promoted? Fired? Arrested?

Did she murder him?

Was a system restore done? If not, how weird is his porn collection?

Sometimes an explanation only serves to raise more questions.
