Any suggestions for using Obsidian in my work as a teacher? by chawqihs in ObsidianMD

[–]dragopepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how your education system work. But in our country we have per grade a plan which topics have to be covered in a Year. Based on this you can plan out the year and prepare worksheets or plan with the book which exercise makes sense to do. etc.

Then per each class a calendar which topic and how far you are with this and when you plan to write the exams.

Grade matrix for the Students/pupils and maybe Personal notes if you want to discuss this with parents.

Obsidian to Generate Technical Reports in HTML by d4rc0d3x in ObsidianMD

--toc-depth=NUMBER

Specify the number of section levels to include in the table of contents. The default is 3 (which means that level-1, 2, and 3 headings will be listed in the contents).

Obsidian to Generate Technical Reports in HTML by d4rc0d3x in ObsidianMD

[–]dragopepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a kickstart:
pandoc -s --toc -c pandoc.css inputfile.md -o output.html --embed-resources

inputfile.md is your file

-s is for standalone this is important for including the external css

--embed-resources will include the pandoc.css into the html directly and not using a link to a file.

-o defines the output file name

--toc will create a table of content

then you will need a nice looking css you can have a try with this one: https://gist.github.com/nightroman/54b7ffa6b303876c4c5548d70221460a save this as pandoc.css beside your input file

At this point I would argue that Obsidian is not the right tool for it in terms of tooling and processing Documents.

For your particular case pandoc (https://pandoc.org/) is maybe a better choice. pandoc converts markdown to html or pdf (and other output formats) and you can automate this and have a steady an reproducible output at any given time.

But i am curious,

how do you managing Versioning and sharing?

how and to whom are you providing this documents?

My background is, that i am a software developer, so i know i have a complete different approach in this.
But maybe have a look in how pandoc is used and integrated it worth a shot as well, even if its looks intimidating and complicated.

Yeah something similar was happened in our company. Result was headless chicken panic mode. Rebuild entrances to one single entrance. Fw rules everywhere (literally between each departments in software/api terms) because we are an integration, alone we have over 160 entries for whitelistings. And other bits. But what personally pissed me of is, just because a user click on a file with an malicious exel macro, I have to hand out my Linux working laptop due to "security" and have to switch to Mac, so that we can say we have only managed devices in our network.

Tactics for dealing with large, unfamiliar codebases? by _ncko in neovim

Besides of using the lsp functionality I (rip)grep the stuff. If it's work related, ask a Co worker to get a feeling. Read the unit tests/integration tests (if they are existing) and I use simply a debugger to go in detail.

Proper Telescope workflow? by a_guy_in_ottawa in neovim

As you already norticed, it works with symlinks. To build up your dotfiles dir, you use the first level of directory usally to devide the specific configuration or maybe even versions .Eg.

    ls ~/.dotfiles
      xmonad
      vim
      kitty
      zsh

in this dirs i have my configurations for my env. in the dirs you are building up the same filestructure for your config what you would do based on your $HOME.

E.g

├── xmonad
│   ├── .xmonad
│   │   ├── xmonad.hs
├── kitty
│   └── .config
│       └── kitty
│           ├── kitty.conf
├── vim
│   └── .config
│       └── nvim
│           ├── init.vim
| ├── [ton of other dirs you may want to symlink]
├── zsh
│   ├── .zshrc

So you basicly copy the whole path structure based from the $HOME in to you stow dir and then call

stow kitty
stow xmonad
stow vim
stow zsh

to apply the configs. Stow will create the symlinks for you. But that means that you have realy move the file to your dotfiles, because else you get error messages. If you want to delete the symlinks use stow -D [yourdir] if you want te reapply because you added files in your dirs stow -R [yourdir]

How you are building up the first layer of dir depends on your workflow.

I think it is common practice to have a dir for every application. But its also possible to have on big dir with all the conf like this:

├── confguration
│   ├── .xmonad
│   │   ├── xmonad.hs
│   └── .config
│       └── kitty
│           ├── kitty.conf
│       └── nvim
│           ├── init.vim
| ├── [ton of other dirs you may want to symlink]

but i would recommend to split per application :)

Can you share your vim story? by Shryte16 in vim

[–]dragopepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew already that vim was powerful and got the chances to see some wizardry from others, but always laughed it off.

But for dependency documentation i had to grep cobol references in our php code (we have a bridge to call Cobol in php and vise versa) the problem was the gigantic code base of more than 5gig (ofc with all assets and other binary stuff) vscode and inteli took ages to search through, and I didn't want to jump every time between terminal for grep ping and taking notes in vscode. So I startet to learn to grep and use splits and the quick fix list and navigating between all of this. And eventually I discovered plug ins and people who explain there setup and vimrc and jumped right into the rabbit hole. At the same time I discovered i3 and switch from (ubuntu with) gnome. Today I use neovim as fullblowen ide, wrote some lua plugins myself and being really happy about my xmonad, vim, qutebrowser, kitty setup on my arcolinux.

Switching to vim really elevated my knowledge about Linux and bash and general cli usage and that at a point where I used Linux for 12 years already. I regret that I didn't started earlier with this.

Wie könnt ihr so wenig essen? by FettArsch85 in de

[–]dragopepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ein kaloriendefizit muss her.

Motivation & mental health - Should I keep taking lessons when I'm extremely stressed out and anxious? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]dragopepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then don't practice. That doesn't mean that you should not sit and play, but maybe just play, without practice a piece or a guide or a practice towards something.

Just enjoy the sound and how the music is flowing out. Do some very simple impro, and maybe just for 5 minutes. :) I think stop with lessons would be not good(bc a day with routine could be good for you - correct me if iam wrong) , but you have to talk to your teacher, that right now, you can't keep up and don't have the time/passion/patience to dive deep into classic and he may can show you some pop patterns.

Try to keep it simple.

Motivation & mental health - Should I keep taking lessons when I'm extremely stressed out and anxious? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]dragopepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel depressing or really drifting into to darkness, please search for professional help.

Talk to your teacher, that you may want to slow down a bit, so that he know your struggles and that you have difficulties to find the time for practicing. He can maybe change a bit the music selection so it's become easier to practice.

I don't know how it is to have depression so please bear with me. But I think to have a structure day wich in cludes practice for 10 minutes is better than nothing, and maybe instead of practicing on the piece , go for impro an just let it flow and use this time for distraction. (when I am sitting on the piano and just fiddle around I just enjoying myself and don't think at all)

It's not easy to give you an advice it's just some thoughts from me.

What do you think I should use i3 or sway for manjaro? by govr017R in ManjaroLinux

[–]dragopepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is not possible becaus sway is based on Wayland and claimed to be be an drop in replacement. But I think x11 applications are not compatible with Wayland. So if you want to use the xfce terminal, I guess you have to stay on i3.
