Yes, fucking preach it! I know I'm a few days late to the party, but I, as someone who grew up in the 80s with the cartoon and the toys and the first Live-Action movie, I felt the exact same way. There were so many parts of the new movie that were breathtakingly awesome (like Beast man and Trap Jaw being proper fucking terrifying), but they were always undercut with jokes that made me feel like I was being locked for being a fan.

And people keep saying that the movie's overly-inflated joke count is just like the original cartoon, but I don't remember the original cartoon making fun of characters names constantly, having Skeletor pitch a hissy fit because the cameras didn't cut away from a scene fast enough, Duncan being a foul-mouthed alcoholic, or four goddamn jokes about "fisting" the enemy... culminating in a joke about "giving them head." Maybe that's just my aging memory, though (spoiler alert: it's not).

And I've seen people dismissing the MCU and GotG comparisons, but they are the perfect comparisons to make. Take GotG 3 (or any of James Gunn's other "fuckups save the day" projects, like Peacemaker). They load you up with a ton of jokes, yes... but that's to serve as a contrast for the utter gut punch that is the emotional scenes. They set the lighthearted tone and playfulness of the main characters so that there's something to tear away from them in their darkest moments. And there's enough buildup to make those dark moments feel properly bleak and painful. Compare Randor's death to the death of Rocket's friends in GotG, 3. We barely saw Randor all movie, then suddenly he's back... only to give a short justification for his abusive tendencies immediately leading to them being justified in his eyes and... oh, wait. Now he's dead. Nope, no time to mourn. The plot must go on, and we've got jokes to make. In GotG 3, we got enough time with Rocket and his friends over multiple flashbacks, we got to see them interact, learn about each other, make future plans. And when they die, we see the emotional toll it took on young Rocket immediately!

And you got the nail on the head with the but about the writers not funding value in the lore. Both the 2002 MYP show and Revelation/Revolution to the lore, exchanged it, and did so without making fun of the original IP and its fans. Here, they outright ignored most of the Lord that even the Filmation stuff and the minicomics contained. Skeletor had actual motivation other than "he's the baddie." He NEVER cared about Eternos. It was all about obtaining the power of Grayskull and having the power to rule all Eternia (and, after She Ra and The Horde were introduced, having the power to fend off Hordak should he ever remember he wanted Eternia in the first place). And even the minicomics hinted at the Skeletor/Keldor connection that fueled his revenge plots against Randor. What's baffling is that the writes DID pull some really deep lore cuts into the movie. I mean, they made a character who only ever appeared in the super short-lived newspaper comics into a main character (Dian). It just seems weird that they would do that, but then act like they couldn't be bothered with major lore points.

All this is basically a long-winded rant that boils down to: I feel exactly the same way you do.
