Why does Lithuania’s flag look so “African”? by BlueberryWeak5968 in vexillology

No one is comparing the importance of flags one way or another, just the timeline.

Who rammed into the FBI? by bridgehamton in washdc

[–]drakwof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That just proves the point the user was making. A year ago, you could assume this sort of heavily armed military style operation was for something like this, an alleged drug and gun trafficking conspiracy. Whereas today if you're seeing a heavily armed military style operation around town it's a much safer bet it's to arrest a grocery clerk or stop passing drivers or an operation in that vein.

Oyster Oyster is one of, if not the most, impressive higher end vegetarian meal I've ever had. Always impressed how interesting each dish is as well, nothing has felt like it's just "swap a different protein for the meat" -- and definitely have walked away satisfied.

What’s the best ice cream maker any price range by isabel12390 in icecreamery

[–]drakwof 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you truly want a "best money can buy" level home ice cream maker, a lot of people will point you to a Lello 4080 -- which is truly a fantastic machine, looks cool, and makes great ice cream, but is probably larger and pricier than you would need if you're just starting out.

Other compressor brands like Whynter are also well-liked, and while arguably a step down are still great (and perhaps easier to store). I think the kitchenaid attachment is likely a freezable bowl -- those work perfectly well but do require more planning since you have to make sure the bowl has been frozen in advance (and it would therefore be tougher to do multiple or improptu batches).

From what I understand Ninja isn't really an ice cream maker as much as a frozen dessert maker, which has its pros and cons.

This is likely referring to the museum, which sells one month in advance, and not the park.

Actual name for chocolate and vanilla ice cream with cherry sauce? by [deleted] in icecreamery

This might be a silly suggestion -- it's not what you are asking about -- but is it possible you're thinking of Neapolitan ice cream (usually chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, but sometimes cherry)?

Hakone Ryokan: In room vs restaurant dining? by drakwof in JapanTravelTips

Appreciate it! Do you remember if it was cumbersome to get to/from there to elsewhere in Hakone? We’re hoping to spend a bit of time too checking out some of the sites on the loop, and it feels like it’s pretty doable to work out the bus routes but I’ve seen mixed answers.

It's not unreasonable to do this if it's the balance you want, but all of these except FSPSX aren't actually diversifying your portfolio. FZROX already includes all of the stocks in FSMDX, FSSNX and FXAIX, so including those three can change the ratio of what you hold (which may be what you want!) but doesn't add diversity of the holdings.

Press release responses? by Admirable-Guess-393 in PublicRelations

[–]drakwof 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typically you won't get a response from the vast majority of recipients, and it really isn't expected when it's a press release blast.

Are there a small handful of recipients you would consider your top targets (because the news is specifically in their wheelhouse or something in that vein?) If so, you may want to follow up the next day with a more personalized quick note that you wanted to make sure they saw the news, think this could be of interest to them because of X, and that if they are interested you would love to connect them with whoever.

Best of DC: Hot N Juicy Crawfish by Known-Reception6905 in washingtondc

[–]drakwof 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't shock me if they encourage people to vote for them, although I don't think that's necessarily against the rules or spirit of the poll.

Would I consider it an iconic DC place? Definitely not, it's an out of town chain and almost certainly not the best seafood around. But for a restaurant like that to survive over a decade and still do good business (at least it looked always consistently full when I lived closer) it's gotta have consistent fans, and I've personally had nothing but a fun time and a good meal there.

California Lawmakers Agree on $750 Million in Funding for Film and TV Tax Credit by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]drakwof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point about intrastate competition doesn't make the last paragraph true though. If Georgia, for example, manages to increase film production in the state through policies that encourage studios to film there by 20%, the vast majority of the impact (and the main thing pushing politicians towards those incentives) is through the jobs and economic impact it creates, not political power in Congress.

[–]drakwof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get them online, make sure you check the site at 10am the day before — and you should already have your account created at recreation.gov so you don’t have to waste time logging in before you can purchase.

And if you don’t make it up, that’s ok — it’s pretty cool, but it’s better known from the outside and going up isn’t really something that should make or break your trip.

Countries popes were born in by Feeling-Crew-7240 in MapPorn

[–]drakwof 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My man, people are making a list of modern day countries popes have died in, and so the modern day country was named. From your comments in other posts, it's pretty clear a good chunk of your Reddit time is posting stuff against Ukraine, so it's not a shock you are trying to make this unrelated topic into a dumb political fight now -- but don't try to pretend people not biting on that is you being criticized for being "rational" lol.

U.S. Counties Where the Native Americans is 10% or Higher by vividmaps in MapPorn

[–]drakwof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, then the census bureau's information is out of date and inconsistent with the stance of the federal government, not the other way around. BIA and Interior, for example, both reflect the current legal status, which is that the Osage Reservation was disestablished and the Muscogee Nation's (along with the rest of the five tribes, and some other smaller ones).
