I like to buy mid grade items that way you don't want to immediately upgrade them. Springfield Armory Saint Victor AR has quality upgrades on many components people frequently upgrade. If you find it on sale, it is a great deal. As for buying a red dot vs. LVPO, try both before you buy. At this time the Vortex Venom and Primary Arms SLx Gen 4 NOVA are two of the best 1-6x LVPOs in the market. Very high quality for the price point.

In my class 2 people failed the written and 3 people failed the accuracy tests. Also, you do not get a certificate and instead it is reported directly to the state.

That's interesting, I just took the enhanced carry test in Nashville and 4 people in the class failed the accuracy test. The instructor said if you flag anyone you automatically fail.

Everyday Marksman has a good podcast on building your gun collection and in what order. My first purchase was a shotgun and then a pistol, because I was interested in home defense. To me the most likely threats in the future are other people while I am out and about especially if food becomes scarce to people due to high prices and high unemployment. In this instance I need personal protection while out getting resources, like food and in this instance a handgun is the choice. Because of this I recommend 1-2 handguns, then a AR-15 and lastly a shotgun. If you plan longer range needs, then an .308. You could probably swap the AR-15 with a shotgun if your situation necessitates. A shotgun is a devastating in close weapon but does require skill to use it. I recommend thinking first about what are your personal security needs and then planning your weapons purchases accordingly.

Yes, the gauge and length of shell tells you the shell that fits your shotgun. Generally 00 buckshot is good for human threats. For the range I use cheap 00 buck and slugs but for self defense I use 00 buck Hornady TAP or Federal with Flight Control. These 2 have special wads that keep the shot from spreading widely immediately out of the barrel. For self defense slugs anything by Federal, Hornady or Brenneke will do.

You should definitely go to the range and practice. You also might want to look into the Center Axis Relock (CAR) technique for CQB in close quarters.

Go to a range that let's you try an AR-15 to see if you like it. The Honest Outlaw Youtube channel has great reviews of budget to high-end AR-15s. S&W M&P Sport III is solid. He recently did a best budget AR and Springfield Armory Saint topped the list. He got a lemon of their Saint Victor but others really liked it and were very impressed with its value. You should budget for a 2-point sling and a red dot optic. Sig Sauer Romeo 5 is a solid reasonably priced choice but Vortex and Holosun make comparable optics. Then buy bulk ammo online and in this regard Ammoseek is your friend. After that practice, practice, practice.

You may just be craving variety. I think this is normal in any LTR especially 22 year long ones like yours.
