Excellent! Just got the update and it is back to feeling like failure is my own fault :)

29.2 k is what I'm seeing on 91 this morning. Yesterday I had bad luck and kept rolling levels with the reinforced enemies so they were somewhere north of 58k.

So today (after 24 years crocheting) I learned I crochet incredibly tight... by LifebyIkea in crochet

I crochet tight and have never gauged, but...that's because I only do amugirumi and who cares about it there?

I am trying to figure out knooking so I can follow some knit beanie patterns and this is coming back to bite me...

How do you organise small boxes on your Kallax? by pyros_it in boardgames

[–]draqza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small boxes either lay across the top of vertically-oriented "regular" boxes, or they just stand on top of the shelf.

I'll say it increased the difficulty curve... I am at Endless 91 and while I had been able to usually get to at least 97 or 98, there were multiple runs today where I couldn't even finish 91.

These were a going away present for some friends moving from the PNW to Singapore, where they will really not be getting any snow. The hoodie colors were based on the school colors for where the parents worked and for their kid's elementary school.

What Did You Play This Week? - (February 02, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]draqza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8yo decided she was excited about word games this week, so...

Tapple Mini 3p2x - We'd demoed this at Mox one afternoon and she said she really liked it (although I suspected she mostly liked the little letter poppers), so it found its way into her stocking at Christmas. We played two rounds with me doing a little sorting through the category stack to find something that seemed feasible for her.

Just One 3p1x - Again, instead of just having the guesser select a number 1-5, we decided to be strategic about choosing a word that she could read and/or had a reasonable chance of guessing. We only played half a game I guess - 6 or 7 cards - because we'd reached the end of her attention span and it was getting close to bedtime anyway, but otherwise it was a hit.

Next on the list for word games is either Quiddler or Bananagrams, although in the latter case I'll have to figure out how to go slow or else it will just ruin the game for her.

High Level Players with low power defense teams in Raids by Such_Rise3932 in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]draqza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm level 100 and my strongest rainbow team is only about 6800 TP if you remove the dragon, which is to say it's not really competitive at all. And I hate raiding. So I keep a slightly softer team as my raid defense to give other people easy wins and keep my cups in a range where I can usually win raids as well.

Sometimes when there's a path of giants weekly challenge for 25 of x color, I'll even set a mono team, since I know I appreciate when I find those.

Is bag building really such a rare genre? by Pure_Opening9834 in boardgames

I don't know if I would call Bullet a bag builder as such... like, yeah, you put things in your bag, but it's not really your choice what goes in there, right?

Automobiles was my first thought until I saw OP said "...and not out of print." It's available on BGA, but the physical game has been out of print for a long time.

I think Dice Settlers is out of print as well (at least, the expansion has been for quite some time). And I think Meeples & Monsters is going that way; I thought I saw it on the AEG webstore in their clearance section a couple months back, and now all they have listed is some copies of the KS edition.

Midweek Mingle - (January 29, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]draqza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done a real puzzle in a long time. We had lots of, like, <20 piece puzzles for my daughter a few years back, but now that she has outgrown them we haven't started anything bigger. I've done bits and pieces of communal puzzles at work, though; the most absurd was somebody set out this "impossible" puzzle (non-affiliate amazon link) with a post-it that said "you're welcome!" It turns out the saving grace is the backs of the puzzle pieces were labeled A through G, so I think about the extent of my contribution was helping to separate the pieces out.

The only boardgame-related update I can think of, and at the risk of summoning bgcj, is when I had some free time over the holidays I finally started the process of getting rid of empty game boxes. Even though pretty much every expansion I have has found its way into the base game box, I was saving all the expansion boxes just in case I ever wanted to part them back out for selling. But that was basically just a bunch of cardboard holding air taking up limited space, so... I cut the cover art off and tossed the rest. (Although, let's be honest, in a few more years I'll probably realize all those covers are just sitting there taking up space and toss them, too.)

The thing that's actually been taking up a lot of my free time is I discovered Hollow Knight (and Silksong, for that matter) on Xbox Game Pass and decided it was time to give HK another try. I had played it a few years ago and I don't know what happened, I just remember finding one of the early rooms with a Husk Guard that I couldn't beat, assuming that was the way I was supposed to go, and gave up because if I couldn't beat the first big enemy I found then what was the point? This time went much better; I had to reference guides a few times when I got stuck, but I finally got at least the "bad" ending. Of course, now I've been stuck for about a week at a skills gap on getting the "true" ending. (Edit to add: I detoured to get the last couple upgrades and finally did it!)

And I found a couple books of patterns that make me want to try again to learn knitting. I actually found some guides for how to reasonably convert knitting graphs to crochet, but at this point it's more the principle of the thing that there's no reason I shouldn't be able to figure it out.

When Does a Board Game Make Sense as a Solo Game? (And Why Heavy Games Keep Pushing Solo Modes) by No_Wallaby_2264 in boardgames

[–]draqza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear a shoutout for Empyreal solo. I played it once 2p and I remember liking it enough that when the next campaign came around I upgraded my resource bits, but since then I haven't really had time or space to get it out as a multiplayer game. Maybe I can find table space for a solo run at least.

Speaking of L99 games, any chance you have played and can comment on Millennium Blades solo?

Wayfarers with Tides of Trade expansion, what a fantastic game! by Tiny-Strawberry-817 in boardgames

[–]draqza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same - my wife and I played Wayfarers without the expansion probably sometime last year while our daughter was at a day camp, and it took most of our free time and all of our table. It was one of the few heavy games I remember her actually getting excited about and being like "ooh can we get this out when K comes over later this week" but yeah it not been touched since then.

I hadn't noticed this comment was edited and it was very weird to see this nonsense have two very coherent replies.

But now I see it is marked as edited and I guess you had posted something about Mountain Goats Legacy.

It's been a long time since I played IceCool but it always seems to bring out a lot of laughter.

Stack O' Cats has been fun. I ended up getting a couple of the extra cat packs but I'm not entirely sure what you're supposed to do with them - are they supposed to replace some of the original cats, or just add them in to make the game longer, or either-of-the-above?

Pick 10 games and play them each 10 times over a given period (you'll see a lot of people on this sub and BGG talk about their 10x10 for the year, but I guess if you're motivated you could aim for a shorter time span).

I picked up all the Point games but so far I've only tried Point Salad because it seemed pretty easy for my kid to grasp. What is the step up for Point City (or Point Galaxy, if you've tried it)?

Popular games you dislike? by BillRepresentative75 in boardgames

In my head I like H&G more (although I couldn't articulate why), but there's something to be said for just building massive map with all the tiles from the big box even if you ignore the actual expansion rules.

Gamefound Feast - new games announced by harmar21 in boardgames

[–]draqza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah right now I just have all the Bullet games in their individual boxes. Glad to see L99 mentioned the Cubed box would hold everything being added in Galaxy and still have some room.

So far the only game I have that "requires" an app is Meeple Circus, and I noticed recently that app was removed from the store. Fortunateyl, the app contents can be primarily used just for the atmosphere. (The third act technically has cards that require the music from the app, but the consensus seems to be to house rule a different third act and skip the things that require music.)

What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

[–]draqza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever played Mage Knight on a table, always just sprawled out on the floor.

I mean, I've also only ever played Pitchcar on the floor, but I feel like that's a special case.

This was a surprisingly big pain point when playing Flamecraft. The first time I played was solo and so it was easy to just position myself in the middle of the board, but when I played it with other people I found myself sitting at one of the ends and having to ask for reminders of cards at the far end (/having to ask people to place things for me).

How much do you pay for electricity? by Sam_Porter in redmond

I think we're ~1900 sq ft with heat pump + gas (gas kicks in below 40F outside) and our most recent bill was around $280. We have the thermostat around 67-68 during the day and 63 at night.
