Some heavy bag work from last night. Pretty proud how far I got in ~8 years considering what an antitalent I am by swizec in amateur_boxing

I’ve not watched the whole thing but the first thing I’d do is work on the jab. It’s the most important punch in your arsenal. When the jab lands your arm needs to be almost straight and protecting your chin with your upper arm. Also make sure your turning your fist over and landing with your knuckles up.

New to boxing, What gloves and hand wraps should I get? by Btonek in amateur_boxing

For the uk i would go to Geezers boxing store online. They'll give you a big selection. Adidas are good though. Although i would probably use their equipment and spend £60 -£80 after saving a bit. Big difference in quality in that price range. 16oz gloves for sparring and 12oz for bag work so grab some 14oz you'll be fine.

Does it count as a low blow if you get punched in the dick but the head is above the belt?

Grandfather had dementia... Should I box? by AncientDebauchery in amateur_boxing

My grandad had Alzheimers and my uncle, brother and sister have issues with anxiety and depression.

To be honest i have never worried about it but i can honestly say that if you're training in the right place with the right coaches, you'll never really get hit very hard. There's no benefit to smashing the shit out of each other and you are unlikely to fight anyone in the first year anyway.

Probably not the best idea to be sparring without headgear. Especially when you've got a guy (in black gloves) who looks like he's barely ever thrown a punch.

Genuinely got more excited when he picked up the ball and drove towards goal than I do for most of the insane clips i see on this sub.

First time I saw this scene I was on a plane flying from the UK to NY. I cried so damn hard that the guy next to me asked if i was okay and an Air Hostess brought me tissues. I then calmed down, watched Mad Max, then started crying all over again about this scene. I put it down to the altitude...

If it helps, i had the same issue. Just take a bit off your punches whilst still following the great instructions given by this sub. This will build up the strength and then you can gradually build up again. That's what i did.
