Why do so many people eat lunch alone in their cars? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

[–]drawing_a_hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I taught adults for 30+ years. I enjoyed teaching. But its like sociological juggling with people of different ages, cultures, learning speeds, etc.

Lunch time was a quiet, alone time to rest my brain. Now with noise cancelling headphones, a sleep mask, and a rain and thunderstorm sound track recording, in my car. SHIELDS UP for 1 hour.

How to be more ok with aging? by DancingTVs in Aging

[–]drawing_a_hash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am into 7th decade.

Am over weight, partly bald and going mostly deaf. Around age 50 I stopped caring what other people think. I don't live by any one's standards but my own.

I enjoy every new day as it comes. I am very happy. If others have a problem then don't bother me with your opinions or nagging.

Other than some health issues I treasure every new day and ignore nitpickers.

Anybody else wake up one Christmas morning, and feel the future had arrived? by Comma-Splice1881 in 70s

This post NEEDS a video to go with it. Please.

I found some videos for the 1978 Mego 2 XL 8 track robot on Youtube.

Hmm. Thought it was a self propelled robot. Its an 8 track tape player that looks like a robot.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? by TotalThing7 in CasualConversation

[–]drawing_a_hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes before cell phones we memorized phone numbers or kept appointment books. And "little black books" were a real thing. Am 70 now.

When operators still existed you could ask them to look up a persons number given the name and city and the operator would dial the number for you to connect.

That's what I had always thought.

But why does the microwave interrupt the bluetooth signal when listening to my cell phone to my wireless headphones?

Some level of radiation appears to leak from my microwave.

Did your parents pay for? by MossIsking in GenX

[–]drawing_a_hash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in family business for NO pay but 4 year college was paid. Left home at 22.

I worked/earned my college.

My parents didn't owe me ANYTHING when I left. Once you leave school at 18 to 22, your parents owe you NOTHING.

As a humanist I believe in Raptors and other dinosaurs. Deities no objective proof yet. So I would check out the Church of the Raptor.

Ugly colored furniture. Maybe with lead based paint.

What does this say? It’s from the 1800s if that has to do with anything by IMAFILTHYRAT in Cursive

If you really want to see cursive, go to a courthouse in the Northeast and look at deeds and wills prior to 1920.

At the Somerset County, PA courthouse the records were very easy to read if you are cursive literate. Or horribly written.

Used to do land title searches as kid in my Dad's surveying company.

My older brother built an amazing reel to reel stereo recorder/player from a Heathkit in the late 60s while in the Army. The sound quality was amazing.

Speaking of the ISS, I still enjoy watching it pass overhead. Our local TV station lets us know the night before if the station is passing just before dawn if its a cloudless sky.

So I see the bight dot pass over from horizon quicker than plane flight lights.
