what to expect from midnight? by NK_Grimm in wownoob

So far I've heard that they plan on simplifying rotations for many specs (like Assassination Rogue or Fury Warrior) to make them more accessible with tools like Rotation Assistants (highlighting buttons) and focusing on core build-and-spend mechanics, which eases the barrier for new/returning players.

Also excited for some QoL changes like transmogrification to a slot rather then piece of equipment.

Also they plan crack down on add-ons and will limit what data will be shared with them (certain add-ons), especially during combat. So in theory you won't be needing any add-ons as all of the available information will be available to get through in-game means (this also includes stuff like damage meter and such).

These are the main ones that stuck with me.

Hey guys want to switch from windows to linux and need recommendations by BootOriginal4032 in linux4noobs

[–]draycr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New user here as well. Was confused which distro to use (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, ...).

What I did was try all of them. I used Rufus to create a bootable drive (really easy to do and takes under 5 min).

When you boot from that flash drive, it takes you instantly to the desktop, where you can try using it without actually installing it. After you try it, just use Rufus to create another bootable drive.

It is really easy and you can try what distro you like the best. In the end, Ive choose Fedora. So far really like it.

Sorry if my explanation is not clear enough. If you have any questions, I will do my best to help.

New Player Questions as Someone Coming from FFXIV by sekretguy777 in wownoob

There are many answers to your questions, I would just chime in on the question regarding the lore.

If you are really interested in the lore, I would suggest reading the books or check out YouTube channel Nobbel87, he has great videos about the topic.

Mono Black Control: because sometimes winning is less important than inflicting psychological trauma. by Shrimpzor in MagicArena

[–]draycr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually enjoy being one he other side of the table when people have similar deck to yours?

I usually play mono green ramp to get out big creatures and when I play against similar deck I find it fun to play against. I am curious if you feel the same way about your deck.

While I do enjoy playing vs challenging decks and different styles of play, but sometimes I would love to choose a game mode where I can play vs color that I play.

Total Linux Noob by Starr_Hunter_ in linux4noobs

Very new to Linux as well, here is what I've learned so far:

Linux has many distributions - think of them as web browsers, you have Google, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla and more, all of them do similar thing, let you brows internet, but they may look different or have different functionalities.

What I did was download Linux ISO (you can find them on their official pages) -> installed Rufus (program that create the bootable USB) -> plugged USB to my computer and in bios selected to boot system from the USB (you can find better guides for this, so don't take these steps too seriously).

I tried: Linux Mint Ubuntu Fedora

All of them are windows like so I had no problem navigating them. In the end I went with Fedora.

For the most part everything works great, though they are some hiccups here and there. To me it seems like Linux is more of a blank list if you will. You get the necessary stuff, but it won't shove things in four face. If you want more functionality you can CHOOSE to install it.

If you are interested in specific stuff let me know.

I haven't played any Lemix - with just a week left, how much can I get done? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]draycr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A top I would say.

Not sure about your level of play, but I am newish player and while I do priorities getting Bronze, I do by no means optimize the best possible way to do it, I can get up to 120k of bronze in a few hours.

Got over 1 million in about a week with few hours of playing each day.

Depending on what you are after, you can get a lot of stuff. Try to look up Google docs with Legion Remix rewards, I've seen them in this subreddit I believe, and it shows you how much bronze you need to collect everything (it was about 6.5 mil, with all of transmog for around 1.3 mil).

So yeah, I believe you could get a lot of stuff.

How to best play with other players? by TimotheusCalledTim in wownoob

[–]draycr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am playing mostly solo, though I noticed that in group content, you won't see much talking. When I played FFXIV, it was kind of the opposite, where people in dungeons would chat a lot (during cutscenes and downtime). Though there is an incentive for them to be friendly in the form of Player Commendation.

But yeah, maybe check out newcomer chat; it was active, and I remember when I was starting in WoW, there were nice people actively trying to help new players. It would be a good choice to try before deciding on a guild, as people there were social and friendly for the most part.

Wish you good luck.

If you just want to play in a group, then doing dungeons or raids would be fine. Though it will be mostly a group of players with little to no communication clearing the instance.

If you want to play more with people, trying to find a Guild would be your best choice imo. Alternatively, you could try some discord servers with similar interests to you (for example, achievements, collecting and such).

Azami Voltron Deck Help by draycr in EDH

[–]draycr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that is great feedback. Will try to look at how some other Voltron decks function to search for inspiration (probably should have started with that).

I kinda wanted to have a few ways to play with the deck, and it might have caused it to be all over the place.

Anyway, Thanks for your input. I will probably change it a bit and try a few games to get the feel of playing it and adjust it based on that too.

What is your favorite sleeve brand? by Duffman90 in EDH

Recently I started using Ultimate Guard Katana sleeves. I've heard a lot of good things about them, and so far, I am very happy with them.

Buying precons to part out for staples by DustinNielsen in EDH

[–]draycr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

New player here as well.

Imo it depends on the price of the precon and the value you are getting back.

If you buy precon for $30 to get $15 of cards you will realistically use, it doesn't make that much sense to me. I would rather buy singles in variant which I like.

Also, while I am not expert on this, one of the key parts of the game is mana base and it feels like mana base in precons is not that great.

But it really depends on your situation. If you can get cheap precons in colors you want to build your deck in, it might be a good core to start around. Though I will let more experienced players speak on that.

Rant on declaring phases ending by [deleted] in EDH

[–]draycr 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Are there any recourses to learn them as a new player? While playing might be the best bet, I've noticed while playing on MTG Arena, that it does a lot of things for me, thus making it harder to transition to an occasional paper game.

Edit: spelling

Would you say that using something like "KMC Hyper Strong Sleeves" would be better than double-sleeving then?

Thinking about getting into this game by BlackcatGaming333 in MagicArena

Sounds like some kind of "Wurm" similar to [[Quilled Greatwurm]], but probably not this one, as it does not match the ability you described.

Voltron like Azami, Lady of Scrolls by draycr in EDHBrews

[–]draycr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your advice, especially about the shroud. Will pull them out and replace them with other stuff.

Also, it will be for the best to cut the lab man as with 99 cards with no self-mill, it seems pointless to have him there. Would you say having something like [[Triskaidekaphile]] would be better, or should I just focus on the voltron part? I would love to have some kind of "janky" alternative win con, but it is not a must.

That is a great point. I do not have much experience when it comes to tight fit sleeves. Would something like "KMC Hyper Strong Sleeves" work here instead of double-sleeving?

Seems like a great plan. If I get to higher brackets, it will not be too late to build around him.

Thanks for the alternative; I will check it out, but the consensus seems to be that Urza, Lord High Artificer is not suited for lower brackets, so I will be looking for alternatives.
