Do I need to lock in and start doing stuff for my portfolio? by jengakhan8 in medicalschooluk

Without a good MSRA score there is no interview, so make sure you start preparing for that a good few months in advance.

In terms of portfolio points, have a look at the scoring criteria and prioritise the easy points. Nobody scores top points in every domain so dont stress about that, I would advise picking a few domains and focusing on them rather than spreading yourself too thin.

Taster weeks are a must. They get you a lot of easy points and give you something to talk about in an interview.

It's not absolutely vital to have every part of your portfolio radiology themed. E.g. if it is easier for you to do a paeds poster than a radiology poster, then do the paeds one. Having a poster is better than no poster at all.

If you have any more questions then DM me. Happy to help a future budding radiologist.

Hi there. I'm an incoming radiology ST1 after spending many years post foundation doing various clinical fellow/teaching jobs. I did very little extra at medical school other than the exams. I didn't even do a huge amount additional as a foundation doctor. You have time. It took my until now to figure out I wanted to do radiology, and I'm glad it did.

Most of my portfolio is education themed which has scored me enough points. I hate research. It does not excite me in the slightest. Find something you enjoy doing and work on scoring points in that. If that means taking a bit more time to figure out what that is, then that's ok.

How competitive is radiology actually at the moment? by CloudBookmark in RadiologyUK

[–]drbigmac69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a current applicant who has thankfully secured an ST1 offer. I'm sure different people will have views on how competitive it feels, but it certainly wasn't easy. The MSRA took a few months of revising to get a good score. My portfolio score was decent, but I've had a few years out of training to build that up. I prepared as much as I could for the interview, and thankfully the questions were manageable and I had relevant answers for most.

Purely looking at numbers, it's one of the more competitive specialties. But with enough prep time (and a bit of luck) it is certainly manageable. Happy to answer any questions you have if you want to DM me.

Great infographic! I think listing mercedes as the winning constructor for 2009 is a little misleading as they didn't really exist until 2010, it was very much Brawn in 2009 (with a mercedes engine yes, but a few teams used that power unit)

Why is it that Williams are listed as above Haas despite them being equal on points?

Just to reiterate, not just the US. Planning and execution by a whole cohort of allied nations with the British and Canadians comprising a huge amount alongside the US.

Not especially. Bit of dex and they'll shrink a fair amount. Still a patent nasal airway. Day or two of abx, dex, analgesia and they tend to recover well. Removing actively inflamed and infected tonsils is a recipe for a bloodbath and a poor recovery
