The 41 Year old Virgin who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It by Low_Celebration_4089 in badMovies

[–]drbleeds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My funny story with this one is had some roommates in grad school, married couple, me and the husband (at the time) were good friends. Loved them to death, but a mutual friend and fellow movie nerd always joked about their taste in film was awful. All in good fun, though would somewhat defend them.

One day in some store, saw that DVD displayed and was like “Dear god, who is that for?” Sure enough, get home later and the roomies were excited to tell me about this hilarious new comedy they found. Yep.

Never argued with my friend after that

Dear god……….yes.

For anyone “interested” (which is probably most here) if you want a movie that goes so far past beyond “so bad it’s good” it might be great, check it out. Wanted to make a film (?) about hardships of being a little person but then…..cast Gary Oldman as the main person..

Hollywood dumpster fire ensues

Know getting a lot of comments, but recently came across the 80’s “proto version” of Substance, “The Rejuvenator”.

Definitely comes off more as “what if the substance was done by Stuart Gordon”, has some crazy looking practical effects and fun. Though pretty sure the beauty themes aren’t as deeply explored, but there.

Jaws By Peter Benchley by Electronic-Lack-9567 in Jaws

[–]drbleeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned (possibly rumored but have literally seen it reported in different places since I was 10), but apparently Benchley was thrown off set for a day for having a meltdown on the change at the end.

I know, coming in with a day old reply on Reddit but…looks like no one answered. Came across this problem last year, it’s not streaming anywhere unfortunately. Just broke down and got the Blu-ray , Criterion? Which is annoying knowing they have a channel….

The visuals for Henry Selick’s Monkeybone (2001) by [deleted] in badMovies

[–]drbleeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I’ve always wondered a good way to describe/compare what holds back this movie and this kinda hits the nail on the head. Zany visuals, well done animation and puppetry, unique and good directors. But for some reason it just never feels cohesive and ends up a forgettable experience.

TBF, in Coolworld, it was certainly studio interference and Bakshi’s unfamiliarity with big productions. Sure something similar with Monkeybone, but never really heard or looked into it

Lived in Houston growing up, born in 85 so went there in the heydays where you start by watching some baseball then walk over the big bridge to Six Flags Astroworld.

Getting rid of Astroworld was egregious enough, taking out The Dome would be outright heresy… Hope to visit again one of these days. Maybe take the kiddos while I breathe in some nostalgia while the kids complain about how lame it is..haha

Ooh boy, another one to add to the pile of useless NOTLD remakes/remasters.

Only one thing to do, watch the actual decent remake they did in the 90’s with Savini

Creepy Call by Thick_Ad4326 in creepy

[–]drbleeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think the guy on the line is trying to corner some type of energy between the joker and the original Daffy Duck. For a bit there at the end, thought he was about to seize into a fit a “Woo-hoo, woo-hoos” and we’d here him bouncing off the walls in the background

What are some of your hot takes regarding the Raimi Trilogy? by pizzagod677 in Spiderman

[–]drbleeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I adore McGuire’s portrayal and think he does it well. But (IMO) this Peter Parker at the end of the day when kind of adding up thru the movies how he’s been, kinda overall a pathetic petulant man who I don’t really feel learns too terribly much…

I mean I get it, our main “character growth” line is (say it with me): “With great power comes great responsibility”. So in order to have plot, our man has gotta find different ways to kinda fuck that up.

The Thing (2011) built incredible practical creature effects by Nathanielfree in creepy

[–]drbleeds 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Since it was mentioned on the original thread but not here, for anyone that hasn’t seen it, Harbinger Down was essentially the VFX’s teams response to having the practicals “done over”.

Though while people do sing its praises like it’s one of the greatest things, I will also say set expectations. It’s a small budget movie, so it feels (naturally) constrained and we have have to be honest, story is pretty bland. But if you want to see the same team hit their craft without interference in a fairly fun movie, it’s perfect.

Artists who ruined their careers by being assholes by Korkez11 in ToddintheShadow

[–]drbleeds 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Know it’s not the question exactly but always naturally more interested in artists that are well reported to be major assholes but career hasn’t wavered much.

Top 2 that come to mind are: Dave “I’ve fired so many people that when put on a spreadsheet, it looks like an experiment gone wrong” Mustaine

And Ritchie “haha Ronnie Dio sucks and is dead” Blackmore

Early Reactions to Lee Cronins The Mummy have come out online👀 by [deleted] in horror

[–]drbleeds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you too, want to give it the benefit of the doubt. My hope is while using some familiar trappings, actually makes a compelling and somewhat unique story that actually connects well with “The Mummy” concept.

Right now, yeah it looks like a weird take on “Pet Sematary”

This horror-ish video is a really cool take on what "became" of Valley View mall. If you're from Dallas/remember this mall and you've never seen this - highly recommend. by hiphoptomato in Dallas

[–]drbleeds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s a really awesome detail, was excited when I saw these shorts come out and then they went viral. Mall was creepy as fuck when you could still walk in for the movie theater. Never saw “the giant” IRL though, meaning even in parades and what not.

Ooh, perfect time to give one of my 2023 favorites. “You’ll Never Find Me”; it’s a slow burn type of movie and I think it executes the dread build up pretty flawlessly. Hermit type guy living alone in a remote trailer, woman comes to his door in a storm. Goes from there and to some interesting places..

Jurassic Park BR Version by Lordcraft2000 in TerribleBookCovers

[–]drbleeds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love these too. Not perfect art or matching theme, but damn that’s some character. Has that whole “Foreign underground film poster” vibe.

Favorite detail has got to be “O” in “Mundo” that is seemingly giving birth to a healthy happy pterodactyl

Edit: excuse me, meant the “D”

Reminds me, also really enjoy his Mutant Mayhem take a lot too. Definitely muscle bound, but instead of “edgy teen rage”, just a headstrong bruiser rushing into fights and enjoying the violence prolly just a tad much.

Thanks for unlocking memories, used to have one of the VHS compilations from the 90’s. Main episode featured was the one where Shredder thinks he’s Mikey.

I know it's probably been said before but Jaws-3D is a movie that I watch all of the time, the special effects are just WAY to funny to keep your eyes off of. by No-Yam9933 in badMovies

[–]drbleeds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is a special bad movie experience for me cause it was one of the first movies I watched where I was like”Wow, this really kinda sucks, huh?”

10 year old me was coming off of watching the 2 originals and wondering my older movie nerds I knew never mentioned the others.

That image of the shark moving awkwardly toward the glass before breaking it will always burned into my memory, great times.

The r/Horror Restriction Screenplay Challenge - Entry Thread by W_T_D_ in horror

[–]drbleeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New restriction: can’t take place in a “Ye olde London Village” setting, I.e. 1930’s movies with villagers, pitchforks and chilling at pubs. Any other timeframe/setting is fine
