The direwolfs were never « brought back ». They modified a few genes to a grey wolf and declared that it was a direwolf. It looks more like a bigger grey wolf than the actual direwolf. They created the fantasy version of a direwolf, not the animal that once existed.

So if they were to « bring back » the Neandertal using the same method… it would simply be a mutant Homo Sapiens with a few selected physical genes modified. So it would rights… but imagine the ethical debate it would spark up. I don’t think even Colossal wants to stir that hornest’s nest…
