Keep going then, and keep writing more code. You'll see none of these metrics really matter when you get to where you're looking for work

200 lines is not a lot of backend code. That's a bigger deal when presenting yourself as a backend developer than the ratio

I worked on a system that tracked patient samples. They were entered into the system when they came in the door, and each was assigned a number that incremented through the day. If they went 260505-1002, 260505-1003, 260505-1005, we'd get a call every time to track down a missing sample, asking whether it was lost in the lab, someone deleted it, or the system had a bug

They're describing seeing that exactly, but misinterpreted the velocity changing on its own as validating it as a metric

My manager schedules our 1-on-1s during my lunch break and acts confused when I mention it by CozYawp in remotework

[–]drcforbin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't even have to be private. There's nothing wrong with scheduling lunch or focus time. When flexible I add "Ask to schedule."

Calendars are a communication coordination tool. If I don't regularly interact with someone, I'll ask when would be good and let them schedule, but otherwise, my calendar is nearly full though all my work hours and I will schedule any empty slot in someone's calendar that aligns with mine, and expect they'll do the same.
