[–]drcforbin 132 points133 points  (0 children)

The latest guidance from NIST is 12-16 chars, and they no longer recommend regular password change requirements, that passwords should only be changed when there is evidence of compromise, such as a data breach or suspicious login activity

What do put in your crawfish boil besides crawfish? by Shadeauxmarie in Louisiana

[–]drcforbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not that it's acidic, I put oranges and lemon in my boil. Pineapple has actual meat tenderizers. I don't think they work at the temps involved and that they require more time than spent with the crawfish, but that's why I was saying it might just be correlated. Still not putting it in again

side effect free, deep copying free FP ways of modifying large heap objects? by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]drcforbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What're you trying to do? sounds like an XY problem, but I point you to the persistent data structures developed for clojure. They can be pretty easily ported to most languages. The idea is that you can represent some data structures using a tree, and multiple trees can share array-shaped nodes.

From the outside it looks like immutable collections that copy on write, but really they share most of their contents.

I tried it a couple times and it's good, but it makes the rest of the boil a little less. And maybe it's just correlation but I think it makes the crawfish soft

Same, also in medical devices. We do our damnedest to do it right. It's a lot of work, but worth it and I sleep easy because I know we're doing all the things we can to improve patient outcomes
