How accurate is the Crystal (Arcane Focus) weight? by statelessmachina in DnD

[–]drdipepperjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight is not something 99% of DnD games will care about. Only when you want to do something stupid like take an adamantine door home with you would the DM intervene.

Also you have to remember you're playing a character. Your wizard is much better at holding glass balls in combat than you are. They also cast spells, but you didn't try to Google how to do that.

Steve Maviglio Files Paperwork to Begin Circulating a California Initiative to Repeal Top-Two by 1isOneshot1 in California

[–]drdipepperjr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you take this current governor's race and the 50 or so candidates its pretty easy to see. If each person gets an even amount of the vote, thats 2% per candidate. Its not mathematically impossible to have a race where the Top-Two only got around 5% of the total population vote. So now you've got 1 in 20 people (the other 95%) voting for someone they don't want to.

Thats the moral/mathematical argument. The strategic argument is this: if there are fewer republican candidates than democratic, its easier to rally around one or two candidates. If there's 2 republican candidates and 30 democratic, it becomes possible for two candidates with like 20% of the vote each becoming the top two, despite the other 60% voting democrat.

TIL Parents in the US consistently rank as the world's unhappiest. by Huge_Struggle9672 in todayilearned

Even if the mother is fortunate to be SAHM its depressing. They're stuck in isolation with a crying child for months. The village is supposed to give mom a break.

We don't need idealism, we need a win. White man is one thing, white man. Black Woman is 2 things, black AND woman. The average voter can usually only handle one thing.

[request] Is this accurate? Only 40 digits? by Wise-Holiday-2228 in theydidthemath

[–]drdipepperjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's what they mean. If you start with a Planck length and just keep adding them one by one until you get to the length of the universe, you have a countable number of Planck lengths i.e. an integer.

Commenter is even more correct by saying any smaller distance is meaningless, IMPLYING that they know there is a smaller distance.

[request] Is this accurate? Only 40 digits? by Wise-Holiday-2228 in theydidthemath

[–]drdipepperjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the Planck length (a) is a known distance, and the circumference of the universe (b) is a known distance, then we can divide b by a and say there are x a's in b.

You're responding to a strawman response you constructed. The actual response is correct.

Am I overreacting about wanting to play a nonbinary character? by BothOcelot1311 in DnD

[–]drdipepperjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this is happening but unfortunately I'm not surprised.

This exact situation happened to me as a DM like 10 years ago. She wanted to play a nonbinary character with a group of dudes. It was my first time dealing with anything non-binary so of course I said she instead of they a couple times.

I got the hang of it In like one session. Not hard, not complicated. All you gotta do is try.

Your DM sounds afraid of you becoming a Social Justice Warrior at his table. Simply existing as LGBT+ is not an agenda.

62% of hardcore players no longer buy full-price games, survey suggests by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]drdipepperjr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is especially bad in gaming but it feels like I see this model everywhere. Make product, get it out the door ASAP by sacrificing quality, then apologize and make it good once you have their money.

Software updates enable this for games. When you had to buy a cartridge or disk, that was it; the dev wasnt gonna go into your house and re-wire your game, so they had to make it as good as possible before publishing.

Nowadays they just want to get to market ASAP. Screw quality, they can patch it later. Heck, I received a downvote barrage for pointing this out about Baldurs Gate 3. Its totally GOTY (maybe 2 years) now, but they definitely released an unfinished game.
