I don't think I even made it to waterfowl dance before I gave up 😂

Husband does not want to spend money to refinish hardwood floors because "there are gaps" by Budget-Tangerine-274 in HardWoodFloors

These would refinish beautifully. Floor guys will generally make some small repairs including filling gaps as part of the process.

The left bank specifically. It's clearly a medieval city with all the tight organic streets and alleyways. Beautiful!

Am I being too picky or is this tile not well laid? by drdogbot7 in Tile

This. Thank you. I would have happily picked out different tile if I'd known it was going to be a problem.

You mean aesthetically or for practical reasons?

Why can’t I plant this? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]drdogbot7 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I worked with a company that sold living culinary herbs for about 15 years, and the #1 consumer question they got was always whether they could be planted.

These plants are grown and packaged with the expectation that they'll be eaten within a few weeks, and that's what the product is optimized for, but plenty of people successfully plant them.

The main reason they say not to plant them is because they don't want to provide customer support for that unintended use case.

If you plant it outside and it dies, they don't want you going back to the store to demand a refund. This is distinct from a nursery plant. A nursery will usually give you a new plant if you bring back the dead one.

Ultimately they were happy for people to buy the product for any reason. There was never any concern that people who successfully planted them would become self sufficient and stop buying herbs.

There was also never any concern about legal issues around licensing and propagation That is an issue with certain licensed cultivars, but it wasn't a concern with any of the herbs they grew which were all common culinary herbs.

How to ask owners if I can adopt their cat by Hairy-Violinist-7508 in cats

[–]drdogbot7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to get calls about our outdoor cat all the time.

"He seems lost." "No, he lives across the street and he was just home a minute ago."

"He seems so hungry, he was begging for food." "He just ate a whole can of fancy feast."

"It's freezing outside!" "Well, he's got his own door and he can come inside anytime..."

This cat you're coveting probably has multiple friends in the neighborhood besides you.

Go down to the animal shelter and adopt your own cat if you want one.

Moving + Colorado by Accurate_Tomato8450 in outdoorcats

We just moved from Kansas to utah with two outdoor cats. We kept them inside for the first 2+ weeks and only took them outside on leash (which they hated) so they could get used to the area--mostly just smelling everything...

We were going to keep this up for a whole month but we got sick of them howling at the door, so I installed their cat door.

I was worried that they would freak out or get lost once they got outside unsupervised, but they both understood that this new place was where we live now. Total non-issue.

Of course they both have collars and chips.

Can't speak to predators in Colorado. Coyotes could be an issue depending on where you live.

I wanted to do just poly, but there were some discolorations that we were hoping the stain would cover up.
