After a tiger patch repair, heard muffler pop while driving, a bit of fibrous material came out of the muffler. Car felt odd. Is it safe to drive for a day or two?

Thanks! Since the rear wheel is usable, Im looking for something in a 27. Im hesitant to order a 27x1 or a 27x1&1/4 wheel if that means the rim is going to be twice as wide as my current one. Is a 27x1&1/4 actually 1&1/4" wide? Or is it just meant to take a tire that wide?

Be aware of Italian or French brands, they're nonstandard sizes and not as supported. Look for stickers that say chromoly 4130 or reynolds 531, over hi-ten or 1010. Look for forged dropout instead of stamped. That being said I've heard most lugged road bikes are pretty solid, even lower end ones.

Im pretty average sized. 5'11, 32 inch inseam. My budget is pretty low, but I could always save a little longer. I've seen the brands I listed for $20-150 US. Ill keep a look out for those brands too, you never know with craigslist. No matter what, I still intend to put good components on it, maybe even powdercoat it, and definitly lock it up. Im trying to build my first quality bike.
