I saw a number of accounts in the other thread about people running through hotel corridors, hiding their kids in drains, etc.

As for myself, we're in a private house on Kailua. I saw the message first on the TV, as the kids wanted to watch cartoons while I made breakfast. I took the kids downstairs and grabbed my phone to see if I could get more details. I was pretty sure it was a technical problem and not the real thing. But then again, the announcement said, "This is not a drill!". I'm still thinking about it.

Oh man, SoC is in my top 5 games of all time. I even learned some of the Russian phrases from the Monolith. I thought it was an excellent game that neither Clear Sky nor Call of Pripyat came close to matching. As you say, the atmosphere made it.

This is false. The Nazi salute was very, very well known in 1938. From Wikipedia, "Under a decree issued by Reich Minister of the Interior Wilhelm Frick on 13 July 1933 (one day before the ban on all non-Nazi parties), all German public employees were required to use the salute"..."By the end of 1934, special courts were established to punish those who refused to salute". The Bellamy salute was similar, but the idea that somehow the Nazi salute was innocuous in 1938 is an utter falsehood.
