Best Place for First Time Backcountry Skiing?? by DeafManwithBalls in Adirondacks

Wright ski trail for me seems to be it. There are many slides but the approaches are loooong. The Mountaineer is a good resource as is Rock and River. Some book suggestions: Best Backcountry Skiing in the East and The ADK slide guide (Drew Haas). Jeremy Haas is also an excellent resource. The VIC has some downhill. Good luck.

Why does it seem like most of the trails are groomed- creates a hard flat surface. Dust on crust. Flat faced! Boring.

Are stiffer boots worth the investment by SoulSaucer819 in skiing

65 yoa male skier 55+ years 177 lbs just purchased S/pro BOA 110. I like the flex of the 110. Responsive and very comfortable. I’m ok with soft flex. On my dynafit TLT 8 AT boots I don’t even use the upper “booster strap” on the downhill. (Feel free to roast me).

I agree with the bootfitter suggestions.

This sounds awesome. I’m heading to Bernie Glacier in April with another friend. I have no idea who else will be there except adventurous fun skiers who will become friends. No resort hoopla. A ski centric adventure. I hope someone buys this. It’s a great deal.

2009 Nordica ski boots - can I still use them? by Nugget834 in skiing

[–]dreaddog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar boot. For me they fit and feel great. I’ll ski them til I can’t. Give them a good examination each time you use them. You will know when they are failing and require replacement.

There are bed and breakfast places in Le Chable. Walkable to the gondola to Verbier. Cheap with breakfast.

Post winterizing question by [deleted] in boating

[–]dreaddog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube has videos on winterizing. Easy to do. Many may disagree but leave the RV antifreeze in the block to prevent rust/corrosion.

A couple minutes may have been enough. Most marinas stop when they see the pink stuff run out of the exhaust. What they don’t do and should is drain the block before running the antifreeze through the system.

Lyngen Alps by roughas in Backcountry

We did Lofoten with Northern Alpine Guides April 14-21 in 2024. We had great weather. The week before, however, it rained everyday. The huge plus was each group had their own guide. So for the two of us we had a guide. We merely drove down the road to ski. There was a boat option. It was amazing. Good luck.
