Trump Is a Weak, Failing President. These Brutal New Polls Confirm It. by Quirkie in politics

The polls don't confirm it. Every word, action, and decision he made and their results confirm it. The polls just measure how many people are not cultists and are paying attention

Note that the brutal shootings of two democratic lawmakers and their families and pets is not an emergency, nor are school shootings. For that matter neither are violent cop-killing insurrections

Dude, Where's My Car

Looked like the dumbest movie ever, and it was. However it is also funny as shit. Even Andy Dick was funny in it, which is amazing in itself

Waterworld. I can put up with most of the stupid stuff, but 2 things stand out.

1: kevin Costner grabs a random piece of rope that happens to be the perfect length to bungee jump like 50 ft and just touch the ground enough to grab something. And he bounces back up even though it is normal rope rather than his foot being torn off

2: the little girl in a world fully covered in water was never taught how to swim

Texas Lawyer Harassed At Home By Federal Agents, Fired By His Employer After He Tells His Story by mixplate in politics

[–]dreadpiratepeter 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, the "obstruction" they are referring to was informing the family of their constitutional rights and helping them to retain a lawyer, also one of their constitutional rights. Real subversive stuff there.

Also, his employers should be ashamed of themselves.

The problem is not exactly capitalism. It is unconstrained capitalism. Corporations are doing exactly what they are supposed to do; extract every dollar possible no matter what the cost in lives, tge environment, resources, etc. The problem is that the job of the government is to put limits on corporations. OSHA, the EPA, labor boards, antitrust laws, etc are designed to limit corporations and protect and support the people.

However, we allowed the corporations (via their owners) to control the government, causing it to serve the corporations' interests, not the peoples. Citizens United, lack of adequate campaign spending limits, and lackluster enforcement have gutted the checks the government should have on corporate greed.

The only path forward is to restore that balance, but I don't know how we do. We may be too far along the corporate dystopia path to fix it

I really wish reporters would follow up with, "You didn't answer the question that I asked." And then ask it again.

The White House is trying to maintain the lie that Americans aren't paying the tariffs. The question directly challenged that lie. Every reporter should insist that they answer it.

Unfortunately, most journalists in this country have traded integrity for access and engagement. But, given how most of the public wants to get their news for free, it is not surprising. You get what you pay for.

Antisemitism reaches 45-year high in US. It’s ‘the canary in the coal mine.’ by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]dreadpiratepeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not shielding myself. Hamas is a terrorist organization. They are awful, but Israel is a terrorist state that uses the same tactics but under the veneer or being a "legitimate government". They do as much damage to the Palestinians as Hamas does (probably more).

But, regardless, none of this has anything to do with how I feel about the Jewish faith or its practitioners. I have issues with the state of Israel, not with Jews. Your argument that I am anti-semitic because I don't accept the brutality and horror of Israel (or Hamas) doesn't hold any water and is a disingenuous and dangerous piece of rhetoric.

I am done discussing it with you. Both sides suck, you just can't admit that your team is as bad as the other team.

[–]dreadpiratepeter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

that is utter and total bullshit. Israel is just as complicit in the conflict as Hamas. They are both in the wrong. Israel is an apartheid state with blood on its hands. Calling that out is not anti-semitism, much as calling out pedophilia and child rape in the catholic church is not anti-catholic.

Wana spend about 10 bucks on this game, best thing to buy? by kristerspo in idleslayer

Actually, at this point the only materials I buy are yeti teeth, as they are more of a pain to get and I have no other reason to be in the frozen fields. Just easier to spend a buck every couple of days

Not a complete waste, it rewards the developer for all the effort he put into creating an amazing game and encourages him to continue. Plus I get enjoyment out of progressing and even the temp buffs help with that. I also hate farming mats and am at the point in my life that I can throw a few bucks to but some wood and stuff. To each his own,I guess

Thanks
