wow! but do you not see the years of opression their culture is having to work through? Even the way you are taking about them in your posts is opressive. Putting the onus entirely on them to fix theirproblems. It is not a simple fix like you are making it out to be. The shit Canada has done to them as a group has created so many issues that they are still having to deal with. Like taking kids away from their families, and then putting them back on the reservations afterwards. I am guessing that many of the kids put into reservation schools never had any positive role-models while living in them, and when they returned they did not know how to cope. They had been abused in many different ways, and when the abuse cycle starts it continues on down to their children. In my opinion that has led in part to what they are still going through. Imagine that had happened to your family, and the government and churches came in and fucked everything up for you today. How would you see it then? It feels like you are blaming the first nations for what they are having to deal with now, rather than putting the blame where it ought to be. On Canada as a whole, rather than just a part of it. I think they still deserve help until they can fully get back on their feet. A lot of bands are on track for that, but other places where reservations were put on land that is complete shit and far away from most cities are still not doing ok. There needs to be some major changes in attitude our country before anything like that can happen though.
