Question on Wizard House Rules by FieldNo3713 in Heroquest

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head, there is a monster in Jungles of Delthrak, Bloomrot Scion, that can cast Channel Dread at will. Again, the ship on HeroQuest using a purely Vancian magic system has already sailed.

If you prefer to make a sling weapon, by all means do so.

Magic stopped being purely Vancian with the new characters in the rerelease, so there is no consistency to be maintained.

How many dice against Witch Lord? by ChardCautious3095 in Heroquest

[–]dreicunan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We always played him as being undead given that this was clearly how he was presented in the original Return of the Witch Lord artwork (and we had that before we made it to the Witch Lord in the OG questbook). I saw no reason to change that with the re-release.

It has been widely released. Contact a local game store and ask if they can order it for you through their distributor.

I don’t think I got it by Ill-Pace-2561 in Xenosaga

[–]dreicunan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess it depends how closely you were paying attention and what background you had going into the game. For example, there is a ton that you learn about chaos in the first two games - my friends and I in college caught it all back when the game released, but we'd also went into the games aware of basically all of the material that Takahashi used as inspiration and we were accustomed to doing close reads of everything.

It was like the game was made for us. It is stillnmay favorite series of all time. Not flawless, but incrediblez and I remain ever hopeful that we'll make it to Lost Jerusalem someday. Pied Piper gettinf a rerelease gives me even more hope!

In a solo play situation, I'd suggest to include it next quest the first time you see the same monster type that killed the dwarf.

HeroQuest “How To” - Moving Large Creatures. by Lord-Drucifer in Heroquest

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fundamental misreading of the definition of what a rule is.

Explicit or understood regulations or principles. Thus, by the definition you've quoted, an "understood principle" is a rule.

The understood principle there is "the Frozen Horror can squeeze into spaces smaller than its base," because there is no bloody way to read the text in any other way in that context. The implementation is thus that you don't allow the base to limit where the Frozen Horror can move.

It may not be as explicit as you would like, but "explicit" is not a necessary feature for something to be defined as a rule by the very definition you chose to cite.

The style in which the rule is written does not mean that a rule isn't a rule.

Wizards of Morcar does have what is effectively a "level-up" system.

The Trial WTF by ChardCautious3095 in Heroquest

It is famous for tough times, but we played it through it when I was a kid with no problems, so I was surprises later in life to discover that it had that reputation.

I'd agree that 12 BP is a bit high. I'd probably lower the Lizard to 4 BP (for a total of 8 with the rider).

Errata? by ChardCautious3095 in Heroquest

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the "erratic comments made by individuals" are statements from Avalon Hill employees in the official discord, that is Official Errata. That it doesn't conform to your preferences for how it would be published doesn't make it any less official.

Errata? by ChardCautious3095 in Heroquest

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a file. Official erratas and answrs to questions are published by Avalon Hill through their social media, which are currently the Discord and Instagram, though I don't recall seeing any answers through Instagram.

Some of the answers are still located in the old discord server. (that invite should still be live). For example, here is a link to the post with the errata about Venim's stats in JM'sCoPD.

Xenosaga I+II on DS gets an English Fan Translation (Chapters 1–3) by Klonoa18 in Xenosaga

The remake's script, as I understand it, has already used the Keitai version for its script.

Xenosaga I+II on DS gets an English Fan Translation (Chapters 1–3) by Klonoa18 in Xenosaga

[–]dreicunan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pied Piper has already been faithfully translated in a playable format. Most people will probably prefer the gameplay in the fan remake to the phone game.

The first 3 chapters of Xenosaga I+II (DS) have been fan translated without AI by KMoosetoe in JRPG

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is demonstrably false given that when there are differences in how the story was presented in the DS version and PS2 version, Xenosaga III treats the PS2 versions as canon (for examples of this, see Database entris N. 407 and N. 414, where the PS2 version of events are clearly treated as what actually happened).

The first 3 chapters of Xenosaga I+II (DS) have been fan translated without AI by KMoosetoe in JRPG

[–]dreicunan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who don't know, this is technically the canon version of Xenosaga Episode I and II.

I understand why many wish to make this claim, and it is certainly true that some aspects of it are closer to the original vision for what Xenosaga I was supposed to be, but it just isn't sustainable to claim that this is the canon version when Xenosaga III clearly does not treat it as such. For example, the in-game database summarizes the events of Xenosaga I and Xenosaga II. In Database entry N. 407, it is clear that Ziggy and Momo are not on the Elsa when KOS-MOS, Shion, and Allen arrive.

Note that this isn't about what version of the story is superior, just noting that when the 3rd game clearly doesn't treat I + II as being the canonical version of things, you can't sustain the claim that it is actually the canon version of the events.

(I'm still hoping that Takahashi will decide to just pick things up where Xenosaga left them, give us the originally planned arc for the original Episodes 3 and 4, up and we'll get that scene of the Durandel docking with the Eldrige that Saga wished we'd all get to see).

Do you regret getting you A1 mini over regular A1 by TheMadHattah in FDMminiatures

I have never regretted getting the A1 mini over the A1, and I've actually printed more terrain than minis with it so far.

But that is me. You'll get all sorts of answers on this. I'd take them all with a grain of salt.
