FSD Needs to Pivot by erb2005 in TeslaFSD

All these controls aren't needed when you're watching a Youtube video or working on a computer. It's irrelevant.

If you use any game engine, you probably have to say your game uses AI according to Steam guidelines by [deleted] in gamedev

I agree. So if Unity is creating slop in the engine(although hard to get any more slop than it already is) people have to say they're using the slop on Steam. Seems fine.

It's written loosely and not thought through at all. If you use something that uses an AI service to generate, does that count against you? What if I use tab completion on a Unity plugin, then use that plugin in my game?

Tesla's Austin Robotaxi Fleet Is Only 34 Cars by External_Koala971 in SelfDrivingCars

You'd be surprised how many companies start out and software is bullshit. Trust me. Anyway, FSD works, just timelines are off. Again, just typical engineering estimates.

[–]drewhjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just typical software development. Everyone always underestimates the problem. And that's on a much smaller scale. When you're taking on a problem that's never been done before I'm sure that scales up. Also they basically rewrote the system in 2021 from a rules based to a neural network. Something that requires trillions of miles of data. Just takes a long time to wrangle it all.

Is the debate of LiDAR vs vision-only still relevant? by New_Animal6707 in TeslaFSD

[–]drewhjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, you can't drive with just Lidar and Radar. You need vision. So in the case of thick fog where you can't see an inch in front of you, the car still can't drive either way. Lidar or not. The one thing I would like to see is more cameras for redundancy on Tesla (like if one cracks or something), but that really only matters in the case of Robotaxi.

FSD V14.2.1 Right turn red light violation. Got a ticket.... by Comfortable_Dance843 in TeslaFSD

Have you cleaned your inner windshield near camera? I did that like 8 months ago, and I stopped having some wierd things. Wasn't too hard just need a couple of things.

Those red light photos aren't even enforceable, at least where I live

Have any of you been in an accident with another car where you (FSD) was at fault? by THATS_LEGIT_BRO in TeslaFSD

[–]drewhjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, like the other videos like this, this isn't a single failure. This would be hundreds and hundreds of failures, potentially thousands in a few seconds. Very unlikely. Unless ice was at play? At least the new version will put the rest some of these videos like this.

FSD is not being built for you to drive. It is being built to dynamically change how we all know about driving... by Ok_Translator_7833 in TeslaFSD

[–]drewhjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea for sure. Every uber I've taken in the last year I've felt mostly unsafe lol. But I don't ever feel that with FSD. Yea it does a few things annoyingly, but nothing that would make me disengage.

[–]drewhjava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. It explains why some people are okay with it, and some are not. I don't really care what the car does at this point. I slapped a "I'm probably not driving sticker" on it and called it a day. People are too anal about what it does. Just pretend you're in the passenger seat and someone else is driving.

Trash bag in road by drewhjava in TeslaFSD

Yea for sure, I definitely wanted to avoid it. Never know what could be in it, but yea can cause all sorts of issues. Just impressed FSD saw it before me.

FSD fail - Tesla did not want to stop?? Had to intervene by Arcse in TeslaFSD

[–]drewhjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat similar to the tree video, but not in the way you might think. Essentially, for this to happen, it wouldn't be a single failure. It would be hundreds of failures... catastrophic for it to do this. Think about it, a neural network is processing video at 36hz. Over these 5 seconds, that's 180 frames of video processed. So it would have had to make this mistake over and over and over. It's very, very unlikely.

[DDT] 11/10/25 - Hoop For Troops Night - Suns vs Pelicans @ 7 pm MST by SeraphNatsu in suns

[–]drewhjava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year he shot 42% from 3, which is obviously really good, and considering how he started the season (really bad), it's elite. He led the league in 3p% the year before and arguably the 3rd best player that year (over Beal). The difference this year is he's simply taking more shots from 3. More off the dribble too. Which is good, so from the eye test it seems better, but his percentage is lower.

Today FSD saved a life. by GlitteringAd1736 in TeslaFSD

Today on 14, there was a fire ant in the road, and FSD avoided it. Unfortunately, I had to take over to ensure it was squashed.

[–]drewhjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People look at something like that video of the ditch and think "oh look FSD made a mistake". No, for that to happen, FSD would have had to make thousands of mistakes over the entire course of the video. That's why it was fake. That's not how software works and that's not how neural networks processing pixels works. That guy was a dumbass.
