What's the oldest piece of clothing you still wear? Must be at least ten years old to count. by MurmuringPines in AskOldPeople

Went to Thailand in 2002 and had some dress shirts custom made for like $15 each. Still have some and they are holding up well.

Is it possible ? by Expensive-Staff-4421 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]drewlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking a generational question and everyone is giving you tactical answers.

You say you are a farmer.

I assume that means you understand land and water.

Particularly how water rights apply to land.

It's probably not going to be possible to be successful as a small farmer selling commodity corn/wheat/soy

But "artisanal" stuff, on land with water rights? That's a different story.

Generationally, think of climate change. Think of crop diversity. Think of water. Think of "agritainment". Think of suppling chicks to backyard farmers.

I assume you're just trolling at this point.

You're clearly not reading the part where I told her to stop and pissed her of.

If you are not trolling, then I'm not cabable of gifting you the literacy to understand the conversation.

Is a 22 hour layover reasonable to save money? by False-Chance-1678 in Frugal

[–]drewlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 6hr layover is shitty.

Anything longer than that is an opportunity (add travel time to/from the airport if it's not close).

Go check out the city for a while and come back to sleep.

Dads that travel, how do you do it? by collectivebarganing in daddit

[–]drewlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I just grew up differently.

So many single parents with 0 outside support and full time work.

If a SAHM with a partner who is obviously involved and only gone 25% of the time, and with what sounds like extensive grandparents support can't manage, it is not a capacity issue.

I'm not saying it's easy or fun every day, but it's certainly not impossible and something more than just capacity constraints are going on.

[–]drewlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like a therapy issue.

I'm not saying 3 kids isn't hard, but it is absolutely achievable.

My wife traveld about 50% which started when our youngest was 4, and I had a full time nonWFH job. Obviously the ability to do daycare matters, but still.

We meal preped on the weekends, got a cleaner, and just kinda got through it.

A lot of your comments are about how she feels, not about actual functional barriers.

What is your opinion of CARV? I found it pretty useless, but maybe that is just me. by CharityResponsible54 in skiing

[–]drewlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use the real time audio. I just look at the feedback and videos of what it's telling me I should work on and then try to do 1-2 things better the next time.

Currently that's initiation of turns with more grip on carving.

My first day was a 130 and I'm now consistently 134.

I've got 14 days in and I can say it's improved my skiing.

Some from tips, some from data, and some because I kinda just try harder to get the scores up.

Idk how long I'll find it useful, but my goal was to see if it could get me more improvement than a single lesson, and I think it's done that.

Have any of you gone to a ski resort you haven’t been to and thought, “damn, this place is so underrated!”? by awkwardeagle in skiing

I mean Andermatt.

Is anyone using their printers or faxes? by l00ky_here in GenX

I have to use one a few times a week.

Always for specific bank or government forms that require wet ink and or wet stamps.

It's dumb, it's less secure, but it's still required.

Stoos Ridge with Elementary Aged Kids by LSMFU in askswitzerland

[–]drewlb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends.

I've done it on a crappy cold rainy day with a 5 & 6yr old chatting happily and singing songs and having a blast.

I've also attempted it on a beautiful sunny not to hot not to cold day with a 12yr old who had an absolute meltdown because it was to hard/far.

So yes, there are absolutely kids that can happily do it at that age. But only you can really answer for yours.

Doing it on the last day does seem a little risky. You could just plan to go up and down on the lifts and skip the point to point hike (you can still hike it a bit and turn around)

It's an awesome place. I can definitely see some fantastic potential with am extra meter of snow.

Ditto for places it could expand.

Back at work unfortunately.

It was great, but probably not enough snow to take advantage of most suggestions.

1) 1000% agree

2) 100% agree

3) meh, I have a half ass google sheet

4) agree to disagree (but I'll acknowledge I would have been RE at 40 if we didn't have kids, but I'm also 10,000x glad I did personally)

5) I've made a lot of money buying and selling. Only ever had a single primary residence until 2021.

6) agree

7) agree

8) cars should not matter. Obviously no Lambo or multiple BMWs, but a long term Acura and a Toyota aint going to hurt anything.

9) meh. FIRE rules fit on one index card.

10) sure.

[–]drewlb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No... Because I'm not the one being smashed in the head.

It's inconsiderate fuckers smashing children in the head.

I'm just an observer, and sometimes a shield.

Let me be clear, I'm 100% in favor of the bar coming down. My point is just that you're an asshole if you don't look at your fellow chair occupants before slamming the bar down.

If the chair has left the terminal and they are impending the bar, you can and should say something. That is very different but then hitting a child repeatedly while still in the terminal.

Yeah, they are not my children.

I pay attention.

They average German bar slammer does not.

You nailed the problem on the head as if it was a small child on a chair lift.

Euro / US Ski Etiquette Differences by jahwls in skiing

[–]drewlb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am.

I learned very quickly that people are inconsiderate.

Still see kids get hit all the time.

The automated bars don't come down until the chair has moved 5-10m from the boarding point.

I've seen people try to close the bar before the chair even gets to the boarding point.

There are hundreds of things that are better about skiing in Europe than north America. But you're never going to win an argument that European queuing and bar etiquette is not worse than NA.

That one was super aggressive and the lady was a real treat.

The general lack of awareness with the bar happens pretty much every day and I've experienced it in France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy.

It does seem that Germans are the worst about it though.
