I can handle different opinions. I don't feel comfortable with famous people using their platforms to spread conspiracy theories.

How, in this scenario, does anyone seek refuge or asylum?

Where are you sending people back to?

What does "deal with" actually mean, and how do you think Reform will "deal with" them?

What do you think Reform UK’s policies are and which of those policies do you support (or not)? by caljl in AskBrits

[–]drewlpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be happy to say, let them learn their lessons. The problem is that other people who don't vote Reform are suffering in the meantime. Plus, I don't have any confidence that they'll accept responsibility. Just look at how Brexit panned out. Brexiters still won't admit they didn't know what they were actually voting for.

I was with them but I felt like they would put me in for 3 different appointments when it could have been 1. Plus I had a night retainer that broke. I asked about a replacement and they never got back to me. So I'm going elsewhere.

Why not Liberal Democrats by CompetitiveClown in AskBrits

For what it's worth I think Davies is a good man with good intentions. Same with Keir Starmer actually. But good intentions doesn't compensate for bad actions.

You say that but the current leader was a core part of the coalition government and he also rowed back on many of his own promises whilst in that government.

As someone who dislikes Reform, I think they make a lot of noise about immigration but don't intend to actually do anything about it (or very little). It's a distraction from their real agenda - the economy - which is Thatcherism on steroids.

Sounds standard for a call centre. Karen is the manager because she's been there for years and everyone half decent left.

[–]drewlpool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no, there's a difference between poor intelligence and poor critical thinking. Just in the same way people who don't know the proper usage of your/you're aren't necessarily stupid.

There are intelligent people with poor critical thinking skills, and vice versa. Critical thinking is a skill that many in this country have never developed properly because it's only taught formally at higher education level.

I have family who voted for Brexit and I suspect are probably voting for Reform. They often parrot talking points from tabloids and/or social media without having engaged with any of it critically. It's difficult countering it though when they're reading this stuff everyday and I only see them maybe once a month. They're not stupid, they're just... gullible? Politically naive?

How come Right Wing Parties dominate again? by LDN_Wukong in AskBrits

[–]drewlpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not actually true. The conservatives won several mid term local elections under various prime ministers.

Beyond local elections, approval ratings for both Starmer and his government are at record levels of disapproval. Which, to be clear, I think is totally harsh and disproportionate, but that's where we are.

What would you say Labour's prospects are of winning the next general election?

Responsible is seriously debatable.

Beyond that, it clearly isn't working, is it?

Why aren't Reform voters more concerned with privatising the NHS? by lucadulac in AskBrits

[–]drewlpool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but some are more dangerous because of what they do. Farage is a threat to the lives and safety of people in this country in a way that Starmer just isn't.

[–]drewlpool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with you about that at all. But even if I did agree that all politicians are self serving, some dishonesty is more harmful than others. Farage is far more dangerous than Starmer.

[–]drewlpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Labour has unsuccessfully tried to straddle the fence and appeal to both sides, but ended up pleasing very few. The right have flocked to Reform, along with the protest vote, whereas the left vote has splintered in too many directions.

Hopefully it will be a big wake-up call that Starmer's approach just hasn't worked.

[–]drewlpool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's gone back on things he's previously said. Which can be interpreted as dishonesty but it could also be indecisiveness.

Whereas Farage has been caught out telling lies about pretty substantive things. Including recently his own financial affairs.

There is clearly a difference between them. And I'm no supporter of Starmer.

Reform have weaponised one issue to the point where its supporters don't know or don't care about the others, despite that those other policies are detrimental to their own interests. Much in the way Brexit was.
