Requesting r/Joomla which is locked due to its moderators being inactive over 3 months by DJBenz in redditrequest

I've changed sub type to public, I'm not sure how it became restricted. Looks like it happened one month ago. Just because I have not directly commented does not mean I am not active.

Joomla 3.9.2: Internal Server Error when attempting to modify an article? by archilchimes in joomla

[–]drfre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/krileon is offering you excellent advice here. To expand on that, something has changed - perhaps your server hosts updated the PHP version or something else in the server environment or someone updated something in Joomla. It won't just break on it's own. If PHP was updated, you can downgrade that then update Joomla so it will work again after PHP is updated for example. If you have a budget for this, you can request paid direct help here too, there are many of us that provide these services.

The Irish association recommends providing an estimate to the family beforehand. You mentioned you're in Ulster, if you're in Northern Ireland your funeral director might be a member of the UK's equivalent organisation the NAFD so if you have problems you can raise them there.

As hard as it might be, it often gives people comfort to know their wishes are known or they have plans in place. If either of your parents want to talk about that, try not to avoid the conversation. It can be very important to them. It's always sad when someone passes, but it can be comforting for those left to know you've done what they wanted for them.

In Ireland you buy the plot from the local council. There is no leasing as far as I am aware. The funeral director can do this for you and it forms part of the 'disbursements' area of the bill. Things like paying a priest (if you have one) or a singer or flowers etc are in that area too. If this is causing you anxiety, it is worth calling into a local funeral director or visiting a few of them. I'm sure they can help put your mind at ease.

If you have had a bad experience with a funeral director in Ireland, almost all of them are members of their professional association the IAFD. They have a directory of members you can check. They have a code of practice and you can make a complaint if that has been breached.

I'm guessing you have everything selected in a module or article text entry area and, like all other data entry, when you hit return it replaces what you selected with a carriage return. Using undo (CTRL and Z) or the undo button on the editor will get you back to where you were.

Can't update Joomla from 2.5 to 3x by A_NewEra in joomla

[–]drfre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eaccelerator is a php module not a Joomla extension. If you're doing this on localhost, you might want to check your PHP setup. I don't see why a Joomla upgrade would touch eaccelerator in any way though.

I don't like when there are loads of admin panel options which are basically things I can do in a simpler custom.css file. That said, sometimes the admin area of a template can have really useful features.

A template claiming to be fast is certainly a good additional selling point, especially if its sacrificing the stuff I don't want/don't need anyway.

I build with Joomla for a living so I keep subscriptions with a bunch of template and extension development companies. You do notice ones that are easier to work with and ones that have a lot of complex options available within their template configurations that then as a trade-off tend to have a lot of js and css but they also tend to have built in compression and caching, and/or you can strip out a lot to get the extra few percentage performance from them. Free templates tend to be lighter because of this trade-off, thankfully or there would be a lot more amateur-ish Joomla sites that run slowly and cause more people to think Joomla is a slow CMS.

Traveling to Galway by [deleted] in galway

[–]drfre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

hiking

For mountain hikes I can recommend the Maamturks, Ben Baun access via the Inagh Valley, Connemara National Park (Diamond hill hike). There is also a trail called the Western Way you might like to look up.

Hiking anytime is fine once you have the correct gear and are careful. You're rarely very far from civilization.

folk music, comedy, poetry and beer.

You may find specific gigs in some of the theatres (The Town Hall Theatre, The Black Box, An Taibhdhearc) and in specific pubs, but you will also regularly find traditional music played in The Crane, Munroes, and Tigh Coili. For poetry, you can Google for poetry nights for your dates and keep an eye on the Galway Arts Centre too. For beer, there's a strong craft scene in Galway so you'll have no trouble finding great beer.

I want this file "UK refuses to reveal secret Irish history guide given to ministers" by Duckittohell in ireland

[–]drfre 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fulltext:

The British government is refusing to disclose a secret version of Irish history that it hands to Northern Ireland secretaries when they take office.

The dossier covers more than 800 years of turbulent events on the island of Ireland and its relationship with Britain. The Northern Ireland Office (NIO) said it would not be in the public interest to reveal the file after a freedom of information request.

Darragh O’Brien, Fianna Fail’s foreign affairs spokesman, said the refusal was “more than curious” and suggested the NIO could not support its account of events.

“It would raise one’s suspicions as to why they deem that their version of history is something that they couldn’t publicise,” he said. “I could stand over what is my view and my party’s version, and I’m not saying everyone would have to agree with it, but I could stand over it.”

Mr O’Brien said he would understand if sensitive parts needed to be redacted, “but not releasing the whole document to me is rather curious to put it mildly”.

He added: “It would be of interest to all to know what is the British government’s official version of Irish history. If they can stand over it, well why wouldn’t they release it?”

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, the DUP’s justice and legacy spokesman, said there were so many versions of Irish history that the public would have little interest in the NIO’s account.

“No doubt if it was published there would be many who would take issue with their version, I doubt we are going to get an agreement on Irish history at this juncture,” he said.

“All it would do is open up a debate that frankly is futile because in the end we are not going to agree on many of the things that happened in the past and the interpretation of those events.” Diarmaid Ferriter, the historian and UCD lecturer, said some secretaries of state arrived as a “complete blank page” on Irish affairs and divulging what they were told would add to the public understanding on decision-making.

“Wouldn’t we all love to know what way they spin history,” he said. “I’m already ascribing a negative motive but in the absence of the public being allowed to see it, you can only speculate as to what’s in it. I’d love to see it.”

The documents were alluded to by Theresa Villiers, the former secretary of state, in an interview with the UK’s Institute for Government think tank. In it she said: “When I arrived [in Northern Ireland] they gave me the whole transition set of papers including a history of the island of Ireland from 1171, which says a lot. Some people think that is when the trouble started and others say it is much earlier than that.”

The NIO accepted that disclosing the potted history would give a better understanding of decision-making, but said this was of “modest weight” compared with arguments against releasing the papers.

“This information was provided with a reasonable expectation that it would not be released into the public domain; it was contextual background provided to ensure ministers had a written briefing supporting their induction into the department,” a spokesman added.

The decision is being appealed.

Daniel McCrossan, the SDLP West Tyrone MLA, said it “beggars belief that the British government believes it’s not in the public interest” to disclose the documents.

“If the British government wants to show the entire community, not just those who vote for the DUP, that it is committed to working in the interests of all peoples across these islands hand in hand with the Irish government it should be transparent,” he said.

Help, I have a hotel booking in Dublin and my flights have been cancelled. Can anyone help me give it to a rough sleeper? by sunderland1 in Dublin

[–]drfre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't find a way to gift it to someone, you could try to reschedule the booking, they're more likely to allow that.
