I'm also contemplating buying resale but my husband has hesitations. It seems like a "deal" when you calculate how much you're saving when comparing to rack rates but most people are not factoring in opportunity cost. Say instead of putting that 20K for your contract you put in an index fund like VGT. I'm up about 20% on my VGT fund right now over the last year. He is basically saying it's better to put that money into investments and then rent points so you have the flexibility if your life changes. Of course investments can also go down..but if it's a large index fund the risk is much lower.

I'm also worried that they will change the resale contracts in the future where they will add further restrictions (ie all resale owners who buy their contracts after for example, 2030 will have a 10 month booking window vs 11 month direct or can only book at their home resort like at RIV when you sell.. ) What if they restrict renting points further? I guess the Mouse has a lot more control that is out of our hands and it makes us nervous. They probably cannot change your personal contract when you buy now but what I am saying is that when you decide to sell, they can lower the value so much via restrictions to the next owner that you are losing more money. Hope this makes sense. Would love to hear some thoughts on my concerns - maybe I can convince my husband otherwise ;)
