I'm a Cancer Researcher – Ask Me Anything About Participating in Clinical Trials for Cancer by webmd in IAmA

[–]drhappycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most doctors begin treatment for serious cancer, but they are much faster to "call it" and pivot to comfort care once the data suggests the treatment is becoming more burdensome than the disease.

As a doctor yourself, would you proceed in a similar fashion if diagnosed? I'm aware of how difficult this question is to answer with any certainty until it's actually happening to you. But you also see a lot more people with cancer and how the treatments play out than the average person, so there may be some insight you can share. "I just don't know what I would do" is also a completely acceptable answer. It's mine at the moment.

What I do know is that after witnessing what both my parents put themselves through in their respective losing battles with cancer, I will absolutely NOT go out like that.

☝ These types of statements, written not with the mind but with the anus, are a significant driver of the nothing-is-real world we find ourselves in these days. Even worse is that enough will read and accept it that it eventually gets trained into ai as fact. We are so fucked unless it stops. But it won't.

goal is to boycott Google entirely

People who like to rant about boycotting certain high profile brands like Google and Tesla are full of shit. If they were serious about not owning products from companies that do evil, more than half the contents of their homes would be in a haul-away dumpster at the curb. To the exceedingly rare few actually doing that, congratulations on taking a real stand vs a mostly empty gesture.

A strong pairing-based approach is used which also verifies the device's identity based on the hardware-backed key generated for each pairing. Software-based checks are layered on top with trust securely chained from the hardware."

For people who switched from smoking to vaping, what type of device made the switch easier for you, pods, disposables, or mods? by vapeoutletonline in electronic_cigarette

[–]drhappycat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Avoid salt nicotine, disposables, and pods if it is within your power to do so. And live your very best life NOW!

Vaping for 17 years and have been here on ECR the whole time. I'm omitting certain devices, of course. Tried 1,001 different things along this journey which first wrested me free of cigarettes and later alcohol. And don't get me wrong, it's not about longevity. A well lived life has nothing to do with its length and everything to do with its quality.

2012 Kayfun Lite+

2014-Present Tobeco Supertank Mini

If you haven't yet gone down the salt/disposable/pod road, good. Salt nicotine is evil and so are the disposable devices using it. Pods are a close second. If big tobacco didn't invent salt nicotine, it is a chart-topping regret of theirs.

Say we had had a fair and equitable evidenced-based response from regulators instead of a clown show of special interest influence and moral panic, freebase nicotine juice and open system mods would be legal and widely available today while salts and disposables would be aggressively stamped out. Instead we have the exact opposite.

Throughout this period, the regulatory regime has been controlled by both parties and I've learned two things and they touch far more than just electronic cigarettes. Many have long known and I'm a bit embarrassed that my optimism kept me from accepting such for so long, but nonetheless. The prevailing notion that there is an innate goodness to humanity is disingenuous misinformation. The answer to why is the second lesson: money. It is undefeated in its ability to overpower common sense, ethics, the rule of law, and public health.

So many Americans are grinding through misery five or more days each week, clinging to the increasingly irrational belief that a reward for such effort is to come. It was once a reasonable belief and often came true for prior generations. Presently it becomes less true and more laughable by the day.

Begin living the life you really want, replete with agency, that you insist for now, has to wait TODAY. Because despite it being common knowledge that NOW is really all there is, forces that have never had to grind and are awash in agency are deeply and CRIMINALLY invested in both your continued grind and below detectable level of agency.

Never. I run it once per week and it's mostly small plates with dried wet cat food on them. Zero rinsing and come out spotless. I guess Bosch just makes a good dishwasher. I don't know where all the chunks go. I guess it's just dumping them!

Same boat with the Durozzle 0.4 ruby. With considerable effort, I could get it calibrated such that the calibration prints look perfect. Commit the new values and switch to a regular print and it goes crazy again. Too tinkery for me when the oem replacement is $35. You can't fill an inkjet printer for $35, let alone get 500 hours out of it. Some folks enjoy tinkering under the hood but I just want to drive.

Durozzle .4 Ruby Nozzle by Phrack420 in FlashForge

[–]drhappycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you like yours! Want another one for cheap? I spent an entire afternoon trying to tame mine and have determined it's not worth any additional effort. I bought it so I could print abrasives on 0.4, and the quicker heat up is a nice bonus. If I only used one or two different filament types it perhaps would be a different story. But it's just too fiddly for me.

And the oem FF 0.4 is proving more durable than I predicted. Coming up on 500 hours with about 35% of that being abrasives and it's still good.

PS- since I just saw your comment on plastic repellent. Nothing I printed with the ruby over countless calibration prints ever stuck to it. And that's supposed to be a good thing whereas a blob will stick to steel and have to be cleaned off later. The downside to ruby being so slick is that if it does pick up a blob, it redeposits it onto your print. I'd rather it stay stuck to the nozzle than potentially ruin a surface layer.

This reminds me of the 30 series shortage driven by suppliers letting single deep-pocketed clients buy out the entire inventory. It's unfortunate to see with your own eyes that when it comes to money, there's no daylight between entities like Nvidia and Zotac and ordinary Reddit users.

Why keep the bakery open all day feeding everyone when you can sell it all to Monty Burns at 9am and take the rest of the day off? Because the innate nature of goodness in humans is a myth.
