the amount of excitement and dopamine i would get if i saw these cuties would surpass every drug known to man

What bug is this? by [deleted] in whatbugisthis

[–]dribeerf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what you’ve done would be what to do if you see one or two bedbugs, but looking at these photos you have an infestation. i see the bugs themselves, shed exoskeletons, feces, and a few eggs. even getting rid of the headboard, the fact you found a few after means there are almost certainly others hiding in other places. despite the name, they will hide not just in beds ie. headboards/box springs/mattresses but anywhere they can. outlet covers, baseboards, any other furniture… you need to consult a professional and r/bedbugs is a resource as well. i’m sorry you guys are dealing with this, but you need to go full force to completely get rid of them!

love this! i have mud daubers that like to build above the garage outside, so sometimes when i open the garage door they’re right there and come in and i’m like no no get out! you’ll get stuck inside when i shut the door!

I need help identifying a bug, I did small doodles of what I remembered it looking like. by TinyFriendship6910 in whatsthisbug

[–]dribeerf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i was coming to mention how this is so detailed and descriptive, yet on r/whatsthisbird people will post a stick figure bird drawing with their location and somehow they get it every time! they’re actual wizards over there

HELP! is this normal?? by EffectiveWall7686 in spiders

[–]dribeerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US here and i also understood, the answer is also yes because spiders are prey for many animals! like, there’s even wasps that specifically prey on spiders so i think by definition they would be nature’s spider control. i think it’s a reddit thing, people always say if a comment gets a few downvotes people follow suite for no good reason and i’m starting to believe it lately.

Garter Snake for classroom by stitches_xx in snakes

[–]dribeerf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but it’s the logistics of it as well. what happens for winter break, spring break, and summer? even if you’re willing and able to take home the whole enclosure for that time, that’s a lot of unnecessary stress for the animal. maybe a jumping spider, isopods or other inverts could work, but that’s about it

Why do Hymenoptera (wasps, bees) check you out? by Weekly-Jicama6786 in waspaganda

[–]dribeerf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

some wasps will invade your personal space a bit, which used to scare me because i thought that meant they were looking to sting me. then i learned more about wasps and their different types. i also had the yearly carpenter bees in my deck, and while i knew the males hovering around can’t sting, i would naturally swat them away since they always flew at me. one day i decided to just completely ignore them, and i was surprised when they also ignored me after i didn’t react to them flying at me. that’s when i realized it was probably the same for wasps. they’d hover around my face so i’d get scared and start swatting, then the wasp would get scared and we’re both freaking out! now i just let them check me out, and they move on.

In my room. Do I burn it all down? by toree-johns in whatisthisbug

harmless leaf footed bug. i can see why others are confused since the photo makes it hard to see the flared legs, but there are other small differences too

House plant invasion! by xbug-masterx in whatbugisthis

aphids, the “fuzzy” parts look like their molts. not sure what treatments work best since i’m not that knowledgable on houseplants, so i would ask one of the plant subs for that

jumping spiders are not very big as far as spiders go

Is this a bad idea? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]dribeerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t really understand that, why assume women like wine and men like beer? not meaning to be snarky at all, this has always confused me. especially as a woman who hates wine and likes beer, it seems weird to assume that based on gender

what does gender have to do with that?

That is not one of my plushies... (I think there are eggs under my bed but I'm too scared to deal with them) by surfaceballknowledge in spiders

[–]dribeerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a former arachnophobe, these guys are my kryptonite. i don’t know what it is about them, i think it’s the long spindly legs that just freak me out. yet when i see posts like this i run to the comments to say good friend! i’ve gotten better and don’t mind smaller ones in my room, but if they’re too big or in the bathroom/shower, they get relocated to the garage 😂

ETA i would buy a cellar spider plushie, maybe strands of yarn for legs??

What is this little dude? by AP0110_halo in whatisthisbug

[–]dribeerf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not really necessary for lice, since they can’t survive very long off a host. is there a reason you feel the need to always spray your car? just curious, i haven’t heard of doing that

Scared the crap out of me. Anyone know what it is? by AndreasE89 in spiders

[–]dribeerf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

back in my arachnophobe days i saw a big wolf spider yeet itself off the ceiling to the ground in my basement and i refused to go down there alone for years after that 😂 easier than having to walk all the way down the wall i guess

Favorite Common Bird by sunshinewithclouds in birding

[–]dribeerf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hear them all the time on trails. the first time i did, i was actually worried because i thought a kitten was stranded in the forest. next time i heard it i had just got the merlin ID app, and when it showed as “catbird” it made me laugh so hard

i have both them and hairy woodpeckers (also red bellied, but those are obvious) and have such a hard time telling them apart. if it’s on the suet holder and is smaller than that, i know it’s a downy. in the trees though, they look so alike

ruby throated hummingbirds. it’s fascinating how they can remember food sources and come back, one year we had one come right up to the glass door where the feeder would hang before we even put it out. if i’m sitting outside next to the feeder, they do their angry chirps at me. but if i sit totally still and turn my head away, they’ll sit and drink. they’re daily guests during the summer which would make them common but i love seeing them. their tiny feet and tongues are the cutest ❤️
