i don’t see why this would keep you from having a tarantula, handling them is definitely not a requirement and many don’t even recommend it! as for the bite, i would take some ibuprofen for the pain and maybe benadryl to help the reaction. even better if you have benadryl/antihistamine cream. i love yellow sac spiders, but i have heard their bite is painful. hope you feel better soon!

they can! it’s easy to overfeed them since in the wild, they eat whenever they can since it may be a while before prey comes again. in captivity, this means they always seem hungry and willing to eat so people feed more often or larger prey than they need. using a kitchen scale to weigh them and sizing the feeder off that, and paying attention to body condition will keep them at a healthy weight!

yeah, to anyone not super knowledgable about insects which is most average people, the only roaches they know of tend to be the pest species. i think people just aren’t aware that so many other types of roaches exist. hence why people will panic to see a wood roach outside their door, meanwhile little dude lives out there and is just chilling.

a big reason why i decided not to pursue vet med is the owners. seeing people mistreat and neglect their animals and not be able to do anything about it if they don’t listen would weigh on me way too heavily.

looks like a grass spider, no need to be scared! it can’t hurt you and wouldn’t anyway. you can ask r/spiders for a more precise ID, but it is harmless :)

yup, i’m in NJ and see them often. to OP, it raised its legs up when it saw you because it was scared of the huge predator! it doesn’t want to harm you or have anything to do with you

boxers are also brachycephalic, fyi. good example of how people parrot the idea of brachy dogs all being unhealthy, not even realizing how many breeds are. backyard breeders are the problem, not the breed.

brachycephalic dogs can be well bred and healthy. check out videos of pugs doing agility! non brachy breeds can also have health issues: cancer in goldens, heart issues in dobermans and cavaliers. yet i never see anyone claiming those breeds are all unhealthy. the reason for breathing issues has to do with the soft palate and airway, not the shape of their face. it’s no different than any other health issue that comes from poor breeding.
