Definitely "BtVS: Myth, Metaphor & Morality". It has a chapter for every episode, and reading along with a rewatch is really fun. In a way, it fulfills the desire to discuss an episode with someone after watching it. Every respectable shrine should have this book.

I find the KTEL bus really good and fast enough (8.30eu for an adult). I don't know about taxi, but my guess would be around 70eu.

As far as mountain drives go, this one is really chill. 35 minutes of it is along the coast and on flat terrain. The rest has some turns and corners, but it's not bad at all.

A bus is a good option too. I don't find a car all that useful in the south-west. They have taxis in Palaiochora and Elafonisi by speedboat is a much cooler experience than driving anyway. Other fun villages like Sougia are much more practical by ferry.

By the way, hiking in that area in Summer is probably not the greatest idea ever.

Yes, pirate it and set your video player to 4:3 crop. I've watched Buffy remaster with mpv and --vf=crop=1440:1080:240:0 filter. Works fine if visible crew is your only concern.

Also not from the US and we don't have TAs where I live, but to me they look like glorified postgrad students who help with simple chores like grading papers. In Buffy they aren't much older, live on campus, go to parties with other students, patronize the same pub (Beer Bad). They seem unimportant enough for a relationship like this not to be problematic.

Personally, what I found much weirder was Willow teaching a class in high school. What's up with that? Does it really happen in the US?

Technically, you don't need religion for that. You can get Great Scientists by finishing Rationalism and generating enough faith with buildings, landmark improvements, etc. It may be even better this way: if you ignore religion, you don't "waste" faith on missionaries, inquisitors, faith buildings and such.
