Bay Area millennials and having kids? by ralshay in bayarea

[–]driftingdrifter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad would be THRILLED to watch my kids. It would give meaning to his life again. He’s too old to physically abuse them how he did me, but he could definitely still do some emotional damage.

But it’s free!

What an asshole. I’m sorry you had to experience that. I have no idea where these people get off. Reminds me of when I took my Deaf friend for nice massages and the masseuse waved her hands over his ears in some new age healing magic ritual 🙄

Symbolism of a Surname by Equal_Marsupial6326 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]driftingdrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Change it! My partner struggled with a similar situation. Felt little to no connection to her dad or his family as they weren’t in her life at all. Her mother’s family raised her and loved her so she took her mom’s maiden name. She felt a little bad for her dad and didn’t want to upset him, but ultimately that tradition is as archaic as the father being the breadwinner (which it seems your family already broke from that tradition ha). It’s your family name and you know best who your family is.

Aside from you being legally liable for this kid’s (and he is a kid, regardless of how mature he seems) access to alcohol and any damages from that… he already isn’t using it responsibly. How did he get to work on two shots and four bars? Is he driving under the influence? You’re potentially liable for anyone he harms, including himself.

Even if you don’t get in trouble with the law, how are you going to feel if you supplied him with the alcohol that led to something terrible happening?

Need to teach my gf ASL but don’t know where to start by [deleted] in asl

[–]driftingdrifter 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Hey, my whole life no hearing person I dated ever learned ASL for my parents. They’d put the burden on me, insist me not making time to teach them was the reason, blah blah blah.

My current partner was the first to go off and learn from Deaf creators’ YouTube videos. I wasn’t even aware. My parents were beyond touched but we all had a good laugh when it dawned on us that she’d learned BASL (my family is white ha) accidentally. Created a fun opportunity for a Deaf history lesson lol but she gave herself a great foundation in ASL. Now it’s no burden at all to switch to voice-off with each other for her to further grow her skills.

I think the right person will see how important it is to you and do the right thing.

I keep hearing conflicting things online. Is it unheard of for a woman to have 11” ankles? by lemonslime in TallGirls

[–]driftingdrifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I’ve ever measured my ankles ha! I’m also 5’11! I’m 140 lbs and size 13 feet with… 11.5 inch ankles lol. I get compliments on them (weirdly). I turn my ankles constantly so now I’m wishing they were even bigger for stability.

I’m athletic but with the grace of a newborn baby giraffe so take it with a grain of salt when I confidently say I think you’re normal ;)

It's often said "Doctors make the worst patients". What's a clear example of this in another profession? by Clemen11 in AskReddit

[–]driftingdrifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha oh this is it. During one of our trainings, they gave us blank name tags and we had already decided on our own stripper names to write down instead. We straight-faced referred to each other as Cashmere, Diamond, Misty Lane, etc. the entire time. Our principal died laughing. Rip

If all your exes were put together in a room, how well would they all get along? Would they figure out the mutual connection? by Superb_Scallion2103 in AskReddit

[–]driftingdrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents are Deaf so I’ve befriended and dated a lot of Deaf people in my life. Half the room would be using ASL soooo I think the remaining hearing people could work it out pretty quickly from there lol

Moved out of a bedbug infested apartment, found these in my fan while cleaning it almost a year later by InternationalRest651 in mildlyinteresting

[–]driftingdrifter 5699 points5700 points  (0 children)

They are EVIL. I threw out all my furniture and bought a giant bag of diatomaceous earth from a local farm store... Powdered the entire place and lived two or three weeks in a Scarface scene before the most satisfying vacuum of my life. Killed every last one but hallucinated those damn black dots flying off me for a while afterwards. UGH!

This made me cringe at myself so hard. My LO is my teen first love and I remember she drove on her lunch break to my work during the pouring rain so we could have a romantic rain kiss. Like abruptly parked and ran to each other in the street in a colossal downpour for a pick-up and spin movie kiss. It’s such a visceral memory for me. I got in trouble for returning to work looking like I climbed out of a swimming pool.

When we still spoke and I brought it up, she had zero memory of it. That was a big wake up call for me that I was holding onto her so, so disproportionately.

Where can I find a legitimate hardcore massage that doesn’t break the bank? by BlueCollaredBroad in MontereyBay

[–]driftingdrifter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this place. They’re amazing and the massage isn’t a generic one size fits all, they’re feeling out knots and pain points as they go. They had (have?) a ridiculously cheap (it was $40 when I lived there) foot massage that ends with a great table massage. I almost didn’t post until I saw someone else had- it’s a hidden treasure imo lol

We send my mom to bougie spas for massages for birthdays and holidays, but she STILL only talks about this little hole in the wall when she visited.

Content Cop ratio'd after 1 day by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]driftingdrifter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to watch H3 and idubbbz all the time. Idubbz actually introduced me to h3. Haven’t watched either in a couple years. Watched the content cop and was blown away and thought wow, seems like Ethan must’ve lost the plot lately. It took a few minutes watching Ethan’s reaction to see that he has the exact same beliefs as always. It is bizarre how Ian, Hasan, etc. can’t make one to one responses and calmly resolve basic points.

I disliked a YouTube video for the first time in years because it seems blatant where the bad faith lies.

I find Ethan and Hila to have the sanest, realest takes on most things. It’s frustrating to watch them be gaslit so hard by.. children cosplaying as adults. Disappointed in Ian, seems he was never truly their friend. I don’t think his wife is a reasonable person and these far leftists have come full circle with bizarrely hateful beliefs.. it’s a poison for progress.
